It is cool.

Do the blossoms last a while? And, just wondering if it blooms annually or continually throughout the Summer?

Glad I took the pix. The blooms only lasted one day and I don't think they rebloom.

It grows new lobes - or leaves - one time per year. Dh and I noticed some of the new lobes looked odd-shaped. Those were actually the flower buds.

Now we know.

I had no idea prickly pear could bloom in Ohio, much less what to expect if they did. Pretty flower for a cactus I thought.

There is a guy down the street from me who has one that blooms hot pink. It's in full bloom right now and gorgeous. Yep. prickly pear cacti grow in Idaho! Some anyway!

Oh man! I'd love to have a hot pink one.

Mine is kinda special to me tho... I got 3 lobes frome Sophie's groomer - I think it was 6 yrs ago. So it reminds me of her (Soph) and also how her groomer found her cancer and gave her the extra years.

The groomer gave me that cactus start right around the time she found those suspicious lumps.

Life's funny that way.

They bloom in Indiana too...mine is also yellow and belonged to my dear neice Pam. It doesn't bloom every year but it always manages to stick me thru my gloves while I am weeding around it.

Yeah, yow. And my gloves are all leather too. So I don't weed so much right there.
