Thank you everyone! It's been a long day and a very long two weeks getting ready for today! The owner of the hotel in which we moved walked into our shop this morning and was amazed that we were ready for business. On Friday, the place was a mess! Boxes everywhere, no furniture, no curtains up, everything askew!

We worked all weekend and today the place was all in order and flowers in the cooler ready for business! Furniture was delivered late Saturday afternoon and everything was put into place. The only glitch was the signage on the front windows. That was repaired today.

Shelley...flowers? How about you come here for a game, and we have a very nice dinner...my treat! If anyone wants to send flowers, we are a full service teleflora shop. I will put our 800 number in my profile tomorrow. Too tired tonight to even remember what it is!!!

This is quite an undertaking for me...I will still be doing my landscape design, just adding another dimension to my business....

Cheryl,

Eons ago I worked as a deliveryman for a florist and spent thousands of hours with the owners of the business regarding in-store marketing.

What we learned was that some of the most profitable parts of the business was the sale of two things in addition to flowers:
(1) Cards (birthday, wedding, get-well, etc). Make them obvious to the customers and they will sell. Keep the seasonal cards by the register.
(2) Sales to churches. Negotiate with local churches to have weekly deliveries to the churches for their services. Keep the proces low and make heavy use of Gladiolas. This will impress the churchgoers and bring in more clients.

I wish you well in your new venture. It will be a bunch of work, but it can be profitable.

Also, if you need people to deliver flowers, hire a student with a good driving record and you will be fine.

-Vic

We have a couple lines of cards. In fact, the hotel owners wife has her own line and we will be selling them. We are also going to be selling Idaho products.

We do have a couple of churches as clients as the owner has been in business here for almost 20 years.

Good ideas!! Thanks!
