Default I Had To Have Emergency Shunt Sugery

Hello,

I had to have emergency surgery last week to replace my valve. I went to the emergency room because I had a really bad headache and my pain medacation got stolen so I was going to see if they could just give me something till I could get a new script from my ns because it has to be sent by mail. *

I*usually do not come to that emergency room so when I went there they knew I was in real trouble. I told them about my shunt problems that I have been had having, but*went over there and was running a low grade fever but it was not over 100 but still a temp. So they went a head and did CT scans and shunt series just to be safe.* They called my ns office in indy but my ns was out of town so they spoke*to the ns on call. He told them to send me up there because he was concerned about the temp that I was running and wanted me to have a shunt tap done and compare my scans on their scans that they had*done to previous one's. Their computer was down so they could not do it over the internet to look at the scans. *

I was transfered to indy by ambulance with lights and sirens to Methodist hospital. The ns that was on call there sow me initally but then passed me on
to a different ns because he said that he usually cannot do a person with complicated hydro. I*saw another ns which I had seen before when I was in the hospital the last time because he works with my dr and does rounds with him.*he found that my shunt was not working at all. *

He wanted to try an ETV to see if it would work for me. and if it did I would no longer need the shunt. But there was too much scar tissue for the ETV
so he just took out my shunt and fixed the same shunt and put it back in. *
That really scares me because now i am afraid that I have a faulty shunt in. And my other ns did the*exact same thing that made it stop working the last
time before I left the hospital. He turned it up all the way and that is how it quit working. It got stuck on the highest pressure setting on this type
of shunt which he had set it on and eventually quit draining. Because I cannot stand at that high of pressure. So I am not sure if It will happen again
or not. But I am thinking of going to the ns*that did my last revision(the one this time) if he will take me. *
