Hi,
I'm excited to have found this board, as I have been searching for years for a group dedicated solely to hydrocephalus and associated issues. Because I work with children and adults with special needs, I actually know a bunch if people who have hydro, but 99% of them have developmental disabilities as well. So, I can't really "compare" or share stories. Over the summer I did meet a friend of a friend who also has it. Still it would be nice to get to know others in similar situations. I was apparently born with hydrocephalus, and first shunted at 6 weeks old. I had many revisions until I was about 5 years old, when that shunt was finally the one that worked. I hadn't even seen a neurosurgeon since I was 18. About 2 weeks ago, I was messing with my reservoir and when I pushed it in, I noticed it took about an hour to come back out! I didn't think anything of it until a few days later I started to get headaches that weren't going away. Then one morning I woke up with blurry vision and an unsteady gate. I am fortunate to live very near Johns Hopkins hospital where after some testing, it was determined that I would be a good candidate for an endoscopic 3rd Ventriculostomy. It was an apparent success and I was released the next day. Ever since then, I have become much more interested in my condition and hearing about others who've been in similar situations. |
