I had my vp post on appt yesterday... Friday... I was getting my stitches out, but apparently my discharge paperwork was incorrect and they are dissolvable. Yay! But I was told they take 90-120 days to actually go away . My appt wasn't with the surgeon, it was worth the physicians assistant. She was really nice, answered most of my questions but left a few unanswered. She is concerned that suddenly one of my pupils is larger than the other, my shunt site is swollen (no fever or drainage) and my vision still isn't that good, but I'm only 17 days post surgery. She was looking through the chart of the computer and I could see it. She left the room so I took a pic of the screen so I could read it later. It said that upon initial placement, it wasn't in the ventricle and was draining blood so she redid it a second time. According to get more, it drained csf but not the way she thought it should but left it in and had a ctscan done which revealed it was in the ventricle.
Idk.. Something doesn't sit right with me. If it's in the ventricle, but "not draining ideally" is it even really working? |

There can be a number of reasons that things may not 'appear' correct. And by doing other tests they can correlate results and come up with a bit more of a defined answer. I say this as my distal tubing (seemingly) had a kink in it and this restricted the flow but didn't cut it off completely. I queried this and was told so long as I didn't lay in bed for 24hrs, natural gravity would drain the tube. Mine wasn't draining ideally, but it was draining. Hope it helps Merl1n |
