Hey, Darlin'.

First-off, stop the Special K. You're starving yourself, and the weight will eventually stop coming off. 'Sides, you wanna eat paper for the rest of your life??

I started Weight Watchers August 18 of last year. It's the most awesome prog on the planet! They help you find out what your normal caloric intake should be for your starting weight and gradually drop it down as you lose. They also teach you how to track the food and know what you're eating by simplifying everything. The more fiber you eat, the fewer "points" the food is worth, and since you are allotted a number of points according to your weight, in addition to 35 extra you can use, not use, or use as few or as many as you want, the weight will be much easier to lose than starving yourself or eating some nasty crap you otherwise wouldn't dream of putting into your mouth. Then you journal it all (they give you sheets, but I use a notebook) and work in slow, gradual exercise (if you're normally sedentary, as I have been since developing Plantar Fasciitis over a dozen years ago) and figure out how many "activity points" you get as a result. Then you can eat those, too, if you want. Get all the dirt from www.WeightWatchers.com. (They also have what they call a "core" plan, which allows you to eat certain foods until you feel satisfied, but since I eat so many foods that aren't core, I chose the Flex Points plan instead.) There are also very helpful bulletin boards on the site. You'll find me on the 100+ board.

I hope this helps! Come on over!

Liz

I have packed on 40 pounds since my surgeries in 2003. I really need to start losing some of it. So my question is how much do you have to pay weightwatchers?

Right now, they're running a promo with free registration (normally $35!), and what you pay per week depends on where you live, but it's generally about $11-14--very worth it, I think!

What can you eat? Anything you want!!

What's off-limits? Nuthin'! That's what's so cool about it!

I have given up a couple of things but replaced them with things that taste similar and give me the fix I need. The whole secret is appropriate portioning and knowing when you're actually hungry. What feels like hunger may actually be: 1) stress; 2) boredom; or even 3) thirst.

There are also guidelines for intake of water, fruits and vegs, grains, etc., that also help combat hunger, and if you're like me and have hypoglycemia (or diabetes), and you have to eat 5 or 6 times a day (which is how I got so heavy in the first place ), you can spread your points across the day any way you want.

If you want, I can give you tips on things that have helped me.

LIZARD, who'll never be that F-word again!!

Hey Distonia
Good for you, for watching out for yourself. My wife enrolled in Curves with my sister in law and has lost a ton (well almost) of weight and inches. Sister in law never really got into it. She always seemed to have other thing come up. My wife went three days a week on the way home from work. She loved it!! She said it was a quick thirty minute workout, and she was done. She also started thier eating program. That was the tough part. There are no special foods, but a lot of fruit, vegies, and protien. She was nearly in tears because of the amount of food they want you to eat. It was just too much for her, but it is suppose to give your metabolism a kick in the butt. Soon she had most everyone she came in contact with commenting on her weightloss. As a bonus her energy levels increased dramaticly. She came down with some resperatory problems, but started going again today. Treat yourself well. You deserve it!!

David

How much does Curves cost your wife a month? I really need to get some sort of program going.
