Hi! I am brand new to this web site and thought I'd look for some answers for my adult son's dilemma here. He has gone through two drainage and two shunting procedures as a result of a fairly large cyst on his brain. The second shunt surgery was supposedly successful and the headaches are virtually gone but he is left with chronic nausea, vomiting and fatigue which of course make functioning in daily life extremely difficult. He has tried numerous prescribed and over-the-counter meds but to no avail. Has anyone out there had a similar experience and, if so, any suggestions on how to deal with it? Any recommendations would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

I have had severe nausea before and after the shunts. The only thing that works for me is phenergen tablet or shot. You have to get by prescription, but it works fast.

I too have found Phenergan helpful with my nausea sometimes though not often I have found zofran to work as well but Phenergan is best because it can be taken with other medicine. I have had 17 placements 2 in the last 2 weeks 16th and 17th.

Please explain to me what you mean by having 17 placements, in the last 2 weeks? I'm interested because I've had 2 brain tumors removed thus far and am wanting to educate myself as much as possible. I don't know much about the anotomy of the brain, and I want to change that. Thank you.

Hi i am new to this sight, i am a 32 year old female who has had 3 shunt revisions, i was a healthy 30 year old in 2007 that was having bad headaches i found out i had hydrceplus then surgrys following after the first on i am having everyday headaches none stop taking norco nothing helps any advise????

I too was a VERY healthy 30 some year old until I had hydrceplus & had a shunt put in...its going on 7 months and EVERYDAY is different for me...I NEVER know what the next day will bring I have had EXTREAM adominal pains and now its headaches...almost worse than before the surgery. I see my NS about EVERY 2 weeks and he has no idea why I am dealing with the headaches like I am- I have had test after test and even a shunt tap..all seems ok. within the last week in a half, I have felt the best I have EVER felt since surgery-I dont know if its because the weather is changing or what but I am FINALLY feeling normal and all good. My headaches still come but they atleast go away- Before I had CONSTANT headaches 24/7 for 4 years straight and NOTHING took it away... before this last week and 1/2 of feeling good, I had the constant headaches of even staying in bed for 3 days straight I know that those will still come back and that REALLY sucks.I am sooo sorry that you are going threw this cause I soooo know what your dealing with...all I know is this...according to my doctor; having headaches like we do is a sign of an infection. My doctor even said that to me yesterday at my appointment- When I told him of me STILL having headaches some days and now not really...so I dont really know...just make sure you check on your temp. He said having headaches I shouldnt really be having but if they get that bad followed by a 101 temp or above go into the ER asap- that is a HUGE sign of an infection. Sorry not to give you great news...but then again if you have no temp just know that we all have those headaches too...So just relax and get some sleep, drink pleanty of WATER, and stay warm Please let me know how your doing in the next couple of days- I hope you feel well have a good night*
