Default Maria is famous

A while back a reporter interviewed my sister about the way Arizona is butchering, er, I mean making changes to their early intervention program. Maria is not only in the article (toward the end) but they used her picture too! The article is called Broken.

In other news, Maria spent a few days in the hospital recently. She stopped eating and drinking and slept all the time - in the end she slept just over two and a half days straight through. They were concerned about shunt failure, though they were confused by other symptoms like fever. She spent two days in the PICU and five days total in the hospital. It should have been four days but none of the doctors wanted to be the one to sign the discharge papers.

In the end, they have no idea what happened, and no idea why she got better. An MRI showed that her ventricles were a *little* larger but her shunt was clearly fine. I suppose it might have just been a bug that in any other kid wouldn't have created a panic.

She's better now, back to her old self.
