Thumbs down Back in the forum

The surgery to implant the VP shunt was done in October 2009. I left the hospital the next day and I didn’t have any more headaches or sinus pain. Unfortunately, I wasn’t the same person as I was before my first surgery. There is always something. The headaches were taking care of with the VP shunt, but the memory problems, lack of stability and sometimes problems to compose sentences stayed with me. They were residuals of the spinal meningitis that I survived. Now the headaches are back, nauseas, lack of stability when I walk, the space out feeling.
But, I am not the same person. I get tired a lot. I don’t remember words, names, etc. To study is now harder than ever. I have to read the same paragraph many times to be able to grasp it. And then I forget it. It is sad. It is frustrating. It is my life now. I still take medications for anxiety and depression, and they have been increased now that I am dealing with all of these issues. I get very depressed. My life is not the same. But I still try.
I wonder if any of you know if these symptoms eventually leave, or not. My neurologist said that because the spinal meningitis that lead to the hydrocephalus was so strong, some brain tissue problems may be permanent... Many hugs my brave people. God Bless you.
