Well, I am losing my job on Jan. 3 and they have decided that it will be a medical retirement. I should be able to collect my retirement but have no idea how much it will be or how long it will take. Does anyone know if I can file for unemployment? If anyone has been through this please let me know what I need to do. Contact SSDI? Unemployment? I never expected to be unemployed at 50 years old and have been really upset about this. Thanks, Lisa

You're still collecting LTD or WC aren't you ?

Lisa in Ohio 01-02-2011 06:40 PM

Hi Finz! Yes I am still collecting my WC benefit. I don't know if that will end or not. Of course this is not creating any type of stress, since I am on my own (but I love having all the closet space!!!). I guess I will just have to wait and see. Happy New Year, Lisa

I'm not positive, but I don't think you can collect unemployment while on SSDI or WC.....those services are paying a 'salary'

Can you collect UI after WC ends? My husband was terminated a year ago, but is still on WC. His foot is expected to heal in the next few months. I wonder if he can collect UI a year after termination.
I wish you all the best Lisa!

I recommend you contact your state's unemployment/employment security offices with your inquiry. If he is considered medically released and employable, in many states he would be able to file for UI.

I can't believe an employer can fire after 4 days

I was fired after 4 days of employment because someone found out I was taking PRESCRIBED meds.

my last employer used to terminate people once they got long term disabled. despicable action against, sometimes, people who were dying of cancer. it makes me very angry that they did this

Hi lisa

I am so sorry about your job lisa. I know from that same experience that is is hard to loose your work when you are not ready to. I was just slightly older, 53 when my health went caputs. I did get ssdi, and eventually all the help I was able to get in this state. However, What monitary amount I ultimately received was of course based on what my over the years income was. I didn't get alot because I had to retire early. I was retired by my physicians. When you have that medical reason, surely you could file. Please try to be good to yourself. I gave up my career and it hurt, but I did go on and find other interests, that give pleasure in life. I miss work terribly and you may also, but it can be used maybe to do some things you have not been able to before. I wish you all the best Lisa, and I hope you get the needed dissability help.

Hi all, I got a nasty little surprise in the mail today, a letter from my employer stating that I would be fired on Dec 2 since I have been on long term disability. I really don't understand what is going on as I was just approved for a SCS trial and treatment is still possible. Of course I can't get hold of the person due to the holiday and I am really freaking out. I have had this job since 1979, and would love to be able to go back to work. If this has happened to anyone else, please let me know what to do. Thanks, Lisa

After 18 months on disability, I have received a termination letter from my employer. Here is my situation:

In June 2009, I was rushed to the hospital and admitted due to severe lumbar pain. I had two very long and complicated surgeries that left me paralyzed from the waiste down. After months of rehab, I learned to walk again, but still have residual pain from the lower back down my rear and legs, as well as lack of sensation in parts of my legs and feet.
I have done the SCS trial twice. The first one was a catastrophe with a severe CFS leak and lead to discontinuation of the trial and removal of the leads, as well as two blood patches (the first one failed). The second trial I went into with a lot of apprehension for fear of a repeat situation of the first trial. Thankfully, the second trial was successful. It was during the second trial that I received my termination letter. I had been keeping my employer (a large insurance company) informed of my situation and procedures, as well as my disability company (though they were horrible and looked for every way out of paying... basically they never contacted doctors like the are suppose to and then claimed I was uncooperative, which I easily disproved with email correspondences that proved I went above and beyond what was required of me). I was shocked to receive the termination letter, but later found out that the treating physician at the time, the pain management doctor, filled out my ADA paperwork incorrectly. I am currently working with the physician (whom has only met me a couple of times and in my opinion was not truly qualified to fill out such paperwork, as he was not fully aprised of my condition and physical situtation) to try to rectify this situtation. I pray we are able to or there will be not SCS permanent implantation.
