Default Lyme and mental illness?

Hello I'm inquiring into the connection between lyme's disease and mental illness. Since i was 13 i have been diagnosed with Deppresion with pychosis and ocd. None of the 20 drugs ive been on helped. Coincidently i had a lot of pyschical symptoms around the same time and was diagnosed with POTS. I had lyme tests but they were negative. I have recently found out that they are unreliable. My docotr prescribed minocycline just in case i had lyme. It seems to be helping with my energy and POTS. Not sure about the mental stuff yet.

Should i see a lyme specialist and get more tests if it seems to be helping? I'd love to know for sure as this has been quite a mystery diagnosis for me.

The link between mental disease and Lyme disease is very strong and often unknown. Both Lyme and Syphilis are spirochete bacteria. People know that syphilis causes psychosis, and a whole other range of mental symptoms. Lyme essentially does the same.

Here is a wonderful brochure about Psychiatric Lyme Disease put out by a very respected source:

http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/Ps...hure_08_08.pdf

I here many times in children Lyme Disease can produce, attention problems (ADHD), cognitive issues, OCD, autism, among others.

From what I understand POTS is also malfunction of the autonomic nervous system. Being that Lyme is infamous for settling into, as it would have it, the nervous system, there could be a direct correlation between what you are experiencing and Lyme Disease.

Can I ask where you grew up? What year do you believe you contacted it?

Sorry I took so long to respond i was on vacation. Thanks for the brochure. I live in Maryland. I started getting symptoms at about 12 to 13 I believe, my memory is pretty poor. I just turned 21 this month. Pretty vague and weird symptoms. Including memory loss, headaches, weakness and exercise intolerance, vision problems, poverty of thought. Even though my blood tests have come back negative for lyme I'm on an antibiotic called minocycline so i will see how that goes. Also looked into the possibility of Pandas for the ocd and tics.
