Crazy New here but a long time Lyme victim

Hi all,
I'm pretty tired now so I'll just say hi and write a few things. Our "lyme nightmare" began in 1987. Our then 9 year old daughter almost died from her neuro symptoms--more later. I also then totally crashed after she got better and better--I had sx but finally they were unbearable. Along with lyme I have many other TBD (tickborne diseases). Our other daughter became very ill the spring before she was to start college. My husband got very ill mixed in there with serious cardiac and the neurologic symptoms we all had. All have been on IV in many cases not covered by our health insurance which put us into astronomical debt. I was an OR RN but am disabled. About 4+ years ago another horror happened. My husband who has his MBA in marketing and had worked for several fortune 500 companies for 28 years in the plastics field was "downsized". In reality, the grandfather died and the smaller company closed. Despite 30+ interviews he did not get an offer. Soon we were out of Cobra and were desperate. My husband investigated an existing limousine company in NJ for 3 months with professionals. He invested $$$. Not 3 months into being a "partner" it became clear that this man is not someone with morals. Today, we are renting, had to sell our home, declared bankruptcy and have gone through all our life savings. We are not bringing in nearly enough $$ to survive. I am somewhat better but because I was dx SO late (1993) I am still sick and have had every treatment under the sun. Our drug plan is high--$35.00 max for many meds and I'm on a lot. Our daughters now 28 and 29 are being tx since they relapsed but are able to function but we worry so. Our 28 year old is getting married in Aug 2008 in Denver CO. I pray that I can go. Her fiance opened a restaurant there and that is where she has lived for a long time. They do their best to help us but they don't have a great deal of cash since the other one bought a house with help from her future mother-in-law and Krissy is trying to pay for their wedding with her fiance. I don't miss a beautiful home or much any "thing". However it is beyond stress when we can never have our rent ready on time or are able to pay other things. Our landlord helped sell our home so he is somewhat flexible thank God. Wow, I already talked much too long and the truth is, when I get around to more of this story almost all people are just shocked. So glad I found this group however my husband uses this computer all the time for business--I'd give anything to afford a laptop for him. I have no idea where the money is coming for me to afford my dress for the wedding. Our daughter is paying the airfare and accomodations. We've owned and sold 5 homes with job moves. We are really at the end of our rope. My husband is very bright and if somebody would just give him a chance at a job with health benefits he would jump at it and try to get away from his toxic partner. Thanks for letting me vent. Bless you all.
Helen

Default Dear Helen,

Dear Helen,

Yup, sounds like a Lyme nightmare all righT!!! Welcome to NeuroTalk. I am pretty new here myself, used to hang out years back at the old sci.med board but it went to the trolls, now mainly at Lymenet Flash but I like Lymenet Europe and this board a lot, too. You have been through so much!!

My whole family was sick, too. My toddler was totally normal and precocious and she turned mute, headbanging and with an autistic presentation overnight. My husband got bad joint pain. We were the 3 of
us all sick. My daughter got treated for 3 years and has been in full remission ever since- she is almost 11 now- and my husband was treated just for a month and said he was better but has had episodic joint pain ever since and is now my ex-husband due to his emotional & behavioral problems that stemmed form that time. I have remarried a grumpy health-plagued man- bad diabetes & repetitive MRSA infections- and have a new little daughter who is almost 3. I am 100% symptom free but am still on abx.

There are 2 reasons families often get sick- 1. shared geography/ risk factors and 2. shared susceptible tissue types We have never been tissue tested but if I ever have an extra $500 I would loev to find out if we are
HLDR4 or one of the other susceptible types.

Your daughetr should meet Kelly (Kelmo from Lymenet & LN Eruope) & her daughetr in Colorado!!!! They are nice!!!

You HAVE to go to your daughters wedding no matter what!!! Go Greyhound if you have to!!! You HAVE to go to that!!!

I also had mutliple TBDs like most people I know- I am the Santa Cruz County TBD Support Group Leader so I know lots of people with Lyme & TBDs*)!!! I had Babesiosis, HME Ehrlichiosis, & some kind of Bartonella along with Lyme. What did oyu have????

That is so sad regaridng your husband- I know my ex-husband has made nothing but bad business decisions since he got Lyme back when. And bad decisions all around. He has frankly never been the same person he was before he was bitten. He had tick bites and rash and sypmtoms but just one month of Doxy.

We had, unknown to us, moved into the #1 place in all of CA for Lyme and both cleared the land of brush for weeks- it was a huge overgrown lot! NOW we know- too late. The sad thing is that with proper treatment we would all have been in full remission but our doctors undertreated us. You know the story I am sure-

Nice to meet you,
Very sincerely,
Sarah

Default Father

My father has just been diagnosed with Lyme disease and shingles. At first we thought he had a spider bite, but then he began to start seeing double. He's now using a eyepatch to see straight. Now his ribs hurt and he can't move without being in horrible pain. How do we know if things are going to get worse?
