Hi there,
I've read a few threads here re: Xanax, though I haven't come across anything re: its off-label use (for other than panic disorder, etc.). Anyway, here's my particular quandary: my PCP recently prescribed it to me to take on an as-needed basis -- to periodically "take the load off" and possibly calm my nerves down when I have crazy shakes and fits, mostly in my legs (at the doctor's office as I am being examined and also when I must speak in front of a group). He prescribed a super-low dose (0.25 mg) and my concern is basically, will my body be OK taking it just a few times/year? From what I've read, one's body needs to get used to it re: GABA amount production and use -- and I'm afraid that I will confuse my body, since I'm planning on taking it only a few times as-needed, so that the correct amount for "build-up" or whatever isn't established... I'm also wondering when it starts to work - immediately or an hour after I take it or when? Any thoughts? Thanks so much. |

Occasional use is probably the best way to use it.
I use 1/2 of a .25mg for my dental procedures. It made a huge difference in body tension (my dentist does not like tension) and really works well. Xanax has some muscle relaxant properties, but not as potent for muscles as valium is.
