Default lower doses

It seems strange, but after lowering the dose of Topamax back to 50mg pd, and leaving it the same for the last couple of weeks, things have settled down a lot. I still feel a bit dizzy and nauseous, but it actually seems to be helping the pain. I didn't think a low dose could actually help that much, but I guess every situation and every patient is different...

Well, the side-effects have outweighed the benefits after 6 weeks, so my Neurologist, (whom I saw yesterday) has recommended I go off the Topamax. I have developed some eye pain besides other side-effects, so it doesn't seem worth it for me. Maybe I'll find the right meds eventually...

I hope you're able to find the right medication for you too, Jaime.

It must be freezing down your way this morning.
I know nearby Ballarat has had snow this week, so I hope you're coping with the cold weather ok.

I've had enough of this cold weather, roll on summer! lol But at least I have felt much better now that I'm completely off the Topamax. I also had my eyes checked, and no problems there thankfully, but if I had continued with the Topamax, things might have been different. I couldn't believe how much eye pain it caused!

Default topamax does affect anesthesia

Hi there - yes, it is quite true that topamax affects anesthesia. Anesthesiologists need to know when you are on this because it affects the type and amount of pain medicine you need to have when undergoing any type of procedure requiring topical or general pain medication or anesthesia.
There are other threads on this topic on Neurotalk; try using the Advanced Search tool searching "topamax" and "pain".
