I have been on nerontin 600mg three times a day for a year for trigeminal neuralgia. I am now having muscle twitches throughout my body and am loosing sleep. Why would this "side effect" ony be happening now?

I can't say for sure, but I'm beginning to suspect that these drugs that we have to take for our nerve problems begin to damage the nerves over time. After all, that's what they do--make changes in how the nerve responds. For example, I was on the highest prescribed dose of Lamictal for years, and I started having touble walking. My doctor said she thought I had a toxic amount of it in my body. That's my theory, anyway....
