Default The Donut Hole for Medicare

My mother in law is on medicare. She is widowed and has a small daycare at her home to try to pay the house payment and utilities. She struggles, but seems to make it, for the most part, every month. At about this time every year she falls into the donut hole where her medical needs are not covered. I have looked into the programs that help with prescriptions and so far they all say that the patient cannot have any type of health insurance...she does, just not for the last 2 or three months of the year. Has anyone else had experience with this situation? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Although this is not a major consolation to you, all drugs except
generics, are reduced under *Healthcare Reform* TO 50% by law and
you get a check in the amt of $250.00 to help. When one spends
enough money on drugs to go beyond the donut whole, $6000.00 plus,
the govt will kick in 90%. With the last election, and republican victories
in governerships and in the House, it is difficult to figure out what is
really going to happen. Good luck The woondog

It's not a problem that they say she can not have health insurance! I know because I applied for these programs also. When I asked about already having health insurance, (Medicare, and in the donut hole), they told me that because I was in the donut hole they considered me to be without health insurance!

So please don't let that stop you for applying, as I almost did the same until I found out I was wrong.

Since it takes awhile to get approved for these programs it's a good idea to start as soon as possible, and the companies will suggest you do so. They will take applications that say she will fall into the donut on approximately "such and such" a date, instead of waiting until she already has.

She is lucky to have your care and concern. These programs are a god send. I can not use most because I still have cash assests from selling my home. But it doesn't sound like that would be an issue for her.

There are also other programs that are not through the drug manufacturers, and instead are provided on the state or county level.
