Default New formulated oxycontin op

I have taken oxy ocs for about 8 yrs. due to chronic pain issues.I tried the new formulated oxycontin op and it is less effective than the oc formula that Purdue does not manufacturer any longer. I don't know what to do now because my doctor won't increase the dosage and it took years to finally find a drug that worked and now whatever Purdue did to the new formula has ruined it.It takes forever to work and is a lot less effective.Purdue and the other companies who manufacturer the generic version have stopped making them.I have empathy for the people who feel the same. We have to suffer because others have abused the drug and now this is what we are left with.A good drug made bad.

I totally agree. I've been on Oxycontin for about 8 years and didn't know they had switched the formula until after I started taking it and started having problems. Weird side effects, less pain relief, and less money in my pocket. After 2 months it finally dawned on me that all my symptoms might be this from this new formula. So I got on the Net to see if other people were having similar problems and sure enough that's when I found out what had happened. There are 1000s of complaints on forums.

I am highly medication sensitive and my doctor's only option is to take another medicine I could not tolerate before.....

We did try upping the dosage on Oxy OP by 10mg 3 times day, but it doesn't help with side effects, and provides minimal (if any) change in pain relief. I take a lot of Percocet now. (I'm sure my liver hates me.)

It take 2 hours for Oxycontin OP to start working, gives 35- 40% less relief than the old Oxy, (when it does work) and only lasts 6 hours. After that I rapidly start withdrawing! This never happened with the old formula.

So we have a new Oxycontin that costs more, provides much less relief, with numerous side effects.

My life is on hold and I'm in limbo while I pray for a miracle and I'm not what you would call religious.

The only good news I have found in all this research about the Oxycontin fiasco, is that King Pharma just resubmitted a request for approval to the FDA of a long acting oxycodone that is also tamper proof. It's my understanding the FDA has 6 months to decide whether or not to approve it. The name of this medicine is called Remoxy.

If it would make you feel any better you can get on Purdue's unofficial website for drug reps and hear what they're saying about this new Oxy cr-p.
Here's the link, (I hope links are allowed.) http://www.cafepharma.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=70 If not google Pharma Cafe and choose Purdue message boards.

Even though they say there have been over 700,000 complaints there is little chance that the old oxy will ever return thanks to people complaining about their kids abusing Oxy and xanax, hence overdosing. I sure don't wish anyone to die, but don't the abusers have to take some responsibility?
As it stands now the abusers are being protected by the FDA while the people with chronic pain remain under-treated, if treated at all.

Sorry for the rant. This is my longest post about this mess. I've had many sleepless uncomfortable nights these last few months and I really needed to "talk" about it. If you have *any* questions please don't hesitate to ask. I've spent way too much time investigating Oxycontin OP as the old Oxycontin kept me alive, and was one of my saving graces. I feel for you. Keep me posted if you like.
