Thanks for the videos... I didn't watch yesterday. ( I don't watch Oz alot).

But his show just reiterates what we discuss here at NeuroTalk.

Only here we do go into detail, which he will not on TV.

People do need to know that drug cocktails are quite dangerous.
The 4th leading cause of death in US is misapplied drug therapies (not errors).

This is why I put up drug checkers , and other sites on this forum's stickies to help people decide how to manage their lives and therapies.

I think many people in general just accept rx'd meds and trust that their doctors have actually learned about the medicines...and interactions...risks...

But not many do all the extra reading to learn for themselves.., they just go by what the pharm reps tell them, and sometimes it is not fully disclosed what side effects there might be.

I watched part of that show....came into it late so I didn't get to see the whole interview.

Since my MS dx I have become very skeptical about prescription meds. Some OTC meds, too. I find I research them to death and only take what I feel is safe and those that the side effects don't outweigh the benefits.

We all have to be our own advocate and not just take whatever the doctor decides is best for us. I question everything and if the doctor cannot answer my questions I dig until I find the answer myself. Usually it's the pharmacist who knows the most.

That fellow representing Pfizer was SO LAME....

He was trying to say --things are better now--- when in fact things have never been worse!

I was rather shocked that Oz said he does not use statins on that show. He stated not too long ago the reverse...very clearly.
He seems to waffle around quite a bit!

There is an excellent book out called:
The Truth About the Drug Companies, by Marcia Angell MD.

It will shock you for sure. One factoid is that drug companies don't discover drugs any more-- no more research. They find NIH and foreign labs and lease rights to distribute the drug found. Today's drug companies basically are sales instruments only.

I've been advocating for patients to learn about their drugs and be very proactive when deciding on therapy, now for almost 10 yrs. It has been very bad for children, for example, the ADHD drugs and atypical antipsychotics have been pushed on babies as young as 3.

The drug they started with? Xenical/Alli? That drug coats the lining of the GI tract and prevents ALL fat soluble nutrients from passing into the bloodstream. It is a really stupid drug.

I don't like watching Dr. Oz or even that show The Doctor's anymore. It's way too "entertainment" oriented. Especially Dr. Oz....when they choose the audience member who gets to be the "assistant". Good grief......you'd think some of those women had just won a car or something the way they scream and carry on. Not for me. He tends to agree with whatever is being said at the time and won't stick to one conviction. He's not a doctor anymore, IMHO. He's an entertainer.

I've become very untrusting of most doctors. The only doctor I go to now that I tend to think is truly thinking of my well-being is my PCP. He listens to me and even agreed with me about taking Krill Oil instead of a prescription med. And it's worked!

I hate the theatrics on Oz's show.

I esp think putting the gross body parts in the circus atmosphere is tasteless and useless. All the playing around wastes the time that could be used to really provide useful information.

But you see, that information is still being censored by powerful people, and advertisers. So instead the audience member and Dr. Oz put on the purple gloves and play with body parts!

Those body parts don't mean ANYTHING to those watching. And they do not look like they do in real life either!

I often leave it on after the first 10 minutes and come in here to work on the board...hubby can hear the circus upstairs even and comes down to ask me to turn if off. It is louder and more inane than any game show ever! All the women kissing and hugging Dr. Oz... PULLLLEEESSE.

Every single show I find huge errors and loopholes! Missed opportunities. For example...in this series of videos, They started with Xenical and how toxic it can be. Then when the audience member is interviewed with her daughter... they don't have any of the side effects! So what is the final message? Take the Xenical ANYWAY. When Oz stated he doesn't prescribe statins I almost fell out of my chair... because I've seen him recently say the opposite! (if you noticed he did hesitate when he told that lie). I know he prescribes statins, has to, because he is a cardiologist and that is part of " accepted standard of care" and he is liable if someone sues him for it.

I saw the part of the interview when the guest doctor asked him point blank "you're a cardiologist, Dr. Oz, what do you prescribe?". He did hesitate and then gave the answer he thought the guest wanted to hear. I've lost alot of respect for him. No, I've lost all respect for him because he's not being a true doctor. He's in it for the $$.

Yes, I am glad I am not the only one who thought that was a lie.

If you pay attention, which is very difficult given the circus atmosphere and noise (meant to distract the viewer, I am sure),
you will find lies and contradictions in every show.

I am trained in nuance and to detect lying because of my job, and so I really pay attention. I've seen enough of Dr. Oz to make ME sick!

The show he had about Vit D started off in 5min to be hopefully useful. But he undermined all the data, and the recommendations were empty and not in tune with each example given. What a mess it turned out to be!

His vaccination show I saw on YouTube, back when we were all being pushed into getting the H1N1 vaccine. That truly was a travesty...and set me up forever to distrust Dr. Oz.

I think he is tired of surgery, and wanted $$ and fame, as you noticed as well. The slobbering over him, hugging, kissing, touching, is a real put off for me! His audience does everything but bow down on the floor to him! blech

I dislike all the "playing up" done on his show but sometimes it gets me thinking about things , then I go look up more details & facts online.

I'm sure he has to soft pedal and not offend any possible advertisers, only way you can get by on TV for the most part I'm sure. Probably radio too.

The Doctors show ... overly tanned, overly made up and they seem to push plastic surgery or similar procedures to me...IMO
