Crazy Asthma Meds

I heard from someone that asthma meds don't usually work if you don't have asthma. Is this true? My doctor is going to be running tests on me to see if I have it but for the time being in between he gave me some Advar and Perventil to help me with my breathing. It's working really good for me so I was just wondering if that was true about the medication or not.
