Hypotthertically if one was prescribed since about age 13-14 every almost every pychotroipic medicine availible including alot of the ssri's, antipychotic (Clozaril, Haldol, Risperdal) maybe one or two anticonvulsant's and anti-anxiety medicines. Also had 22 ECt treatments most unilateral (2008)
How would that persons brain fare and could it recover? |

So basically i'm asking if my brain even has a chance of recovering to normal function. I feel terrible and have gone through so many drugs when we think it was a head injury that caused my symptoms. I'm on clomiprame and luvox now which at one point i was even on 5mg of klonopin a day with it. How did all these drugs affect my development? The drug dealers (pychiatrists) don't give a **** and don't even know how many drugs ive been on.

Im wondering the same thing, i had a broken c-2 and 3TBI's at 17 and have played ping pong with meds over the last 7 years, doctors dont know ****, they have a list of symptoms and that has a list of meds and they just start at the top and go down when one doesnt work. ive tried telling doctors i tried xxx med before and it didnt work and they say try it again... i have severe headaches about 20 days a month from the TBIs and nerve damage from breaking my neck and they prescribe anti-psychotics, anti-depressants, anti-anxiety and all kind of stuff i wanna rip my hair out and scream at them "i just have FN headaches!" i worry what all this crap is doing to me and my brain, everything seems to cause worse side effects than the crap it cures, i have severe anxiety now just from frustration with doctors. they dont even know how most of this stuff works. if you look at disclaimers and commercials some even say "we think this med works by.." or something similar WTF is that lol.
i dont think theres a way to tell the damage really but its got to be horrific, they always said smoking weed kills brain cells, i cant imagine what these pills do

As far as the brain goes I think our brains have an amazing capacity to regenerate and reroute brain cells and electricity to teach other parts of the brain to compensate. Most likely the meds are causing much of the problem and keeping your mind in a fog. Unless the meds are absolutely a necessity perhaps it would be best to wean off them to see just what your brain can do when not controlled by meds that have so many side effects that you don't know what is what. Of course the doctors arent going to want you to do that - one, because they really believe you need them and two, it's their livelihood. Weaning off the meds, cleansing your body, and trying to treat your symptoms as naturally as possible - you just never know what your brain might be capable of. And, of course, I must add the disclaimer: never go off any medication without the advice and knowledge of your doctor. |

What IS known, is that some antipsychotic meds...Risperdal in particular have shown a link to pituitary adenomas. (tumors). http://www.webmd.com/schizophrenia/n...ugs-tumor-risk SSRI drugs have been shown to kill brain cells. This remains controversial. http://www.antidepressantsfacts.com/...ain-damage.htm And not just brain cells: http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2210/8/S1/A45 ECT also has the potential to damage memory. This would be dependent on the type duration and adminstration of it. The brain is quite plastic, meaning it can rewire information IF you are healthy, and provide the nutrients, specifically essential fatty acids, to help the formation of new brain pathways. DHA in particular is thought to be necessary for membrane stability and receptor functions. Choline is critical, and some use phosphotidylserine for memory enhancement. (called PS for short, it is synthesized in the body from choline). Vit B12, specifically methyl version called methylcobalamin is a cofactor in the synthesis of melatonin from serotonin. And magnesium and B6 are also important.

It is possible at your age of 14 that some repair could have happened. Only a neurologist though can answer you completely.
