Default Predinison use and swelling

Does anyone know how to alleviate the swelling that comes from prednisone use. Is there a drug available that can be prescibed while taking it?

Steroids cause weight gain and swelling in two major ways.

One is sodium metabolism disruption. So avoiding salt may help with this.

They also increase appetite, and when that happens people go to carbs mostly. Increasing sugar and carbs, causes the body to retain more fluid as well.

Depending on dose, weight gain is inevitable with higher doses for most people. Prednisone may also increase your blood sugar, so watch out for that effect (it stimulates the liver to produce glucose).

The good news is that in most cases the swelling/weight gain is temporary. This doesn't mean it will magically float away, but it is usually reversible. A lot depends on general health, the reason for taking it, dosage, and length of time on it. Your doc should be able to help you with a diet/exercise plan once the therapy is over.
