Here is an interesting article. The trend today is for the FDA to approve drugs with riskier side effects than before. People (including doctors) however tend to believe newer drugs are safer than older ones that have been in use a long time.

I'm sorry I don't recall the authors name on this. There is a book in our local library written by an MD who recommends not taking any drug that hasn't been in use for 10 years. That may be a little extreme but it does make you wonder.

My doctor says at least 2 yrs. But you know the dirt is hitting the fan lately on Diabetes oral drugs that have been out 10-15 yrs!
So many cause problems. Some like Rezulin were taken off the market. Avandia just recently. Now Januvia and Byetta(injection) linked to pancreatitis, and Actos to bladder cancer. Sheesh! that is alot of serious problems in just one family of drugs!
