Default Neurontin question....

I have noticed that everytime I try to increase my Neurontin above 600mg I get the following reactions: my heart rate goes up to 170+ and becomes erratic, enough to make me feel as though i will faint. I was driving one day when this happened, and I thougt I would pass out at the wheel. This reaction is hard to describe, but it feels like having a a really bad throbbing headache throughout my skin. It gets unbearable. When I reduce the dose back to 600mg it gets bearable. But it is still there. I am wondering if anyone has had this reaction. It is my main med for pain, but it seems to be increasing it. I have verified this reaction by going back and forth between the 600mg and upping it to 1200+ then reducing it again. Any help would be appreciated.....

My hubby took this med and never had that reaction when it was increased. He did start feeling pretty sick after some time (he took it for years) and we weened him off and he's much better. Maybe it's not working for your pain anymore? He took it for neuropathic pain and once that was gone the med seemed to have the opposite effect on him.

I agree that maybe give the doctor a call. It could be you can't take the higher dose and you'll need to find another pain med.

I take 1800 mg. per day. No side effects. The drug is effective for sciatica/spinal stenosis. I feel it is a harmless drug. I dont understand some peoples extreme reactions to it.
I also take Celexa/Wellbutrin combo with no problem.

I think it might be because you are increasing it so quickly. I have to up the neurontin slowly. I cant just up by 600 mgs in a day and be okay. So I would try to up by maybe 100 every 2-3 days and see how you feel from there!

I take 900 mg/day. 300 in late afternoon and 600 at bedtime. It controls my motor neuropathy cramps and fasciculations pretty well. I would love to raise my dose but when I go up even by 300 mg. I get jittery, anxious, and depressed. Strangely, this drug is used by some as an anti-anxiety med.

My twelve yr. Old daughter takes 1600 mg a day. When she was on 1900mg a day she would get very dizzy and almost pass out, she said everything would turn either black or yellow. We went down to the 1600 mg dose and it is better but it seems to be looking its effect.

My doctor just prescribed 100 mg. capsules of gabapentin so that I could gradually raise my dose. Now I'm up to 1000 mg at bedtime and 100 in the AM and 100 in the afternoon. It's still 1200 mg/day but by spreading it out I can handle the drug's side effects better.

hi,
i have been on neurontin for a long tiem with only a recent change.
maybe you upped it too fast? have you tried going to 900 from 600 then 1200?
slowly to let your body get use to the increase?
