I would recommend a revisit to the pain specialist. perhaps there are procedures like epidurals, nerve blocks, or facet joint injections which the PM doc can do to help alleviate the pain without taking you down the narcotic road any further. also, you can try acupuncture which I find helps tremendously along with massage. moreover, you should be stretching yourself every morning. it may take a few tries with different combinations of various modalities to help, but as Doc Smith says, the most important goal is to help decrease the pain and improve your ability to function.

I am on a narcotic cocktail which along with the modalities mentioned above have significantly improved my quality of life even if I live in pain I still enjoy life outside the recliner which is most important to me. don't give up and be sure to advocate for yourself, but also be open to trying other things beyond different meds. I wish you well in your pursuit of a less painful life. take care, be well, and stay well.
