Your current supply won't last forever. At some point you may need to find an alternative.

Unfortunately for me, my intractable pain (caused by generalized internal chronic RSD) cannot be cured, so I have to take strong opioids for the rest of my life because no other medications work as well.
That's exactly why they should be checked. When adrenal hormone levels are too low, pain medications don't work as well, and other health problems can arise/occur. If you have en endocrinologist, s/he would be the first choice to test and help you with treating this if it is warranted.
