I was on Lyrica for one month (25mg), and quit without a taper. I suffered severe side effects while on Lyrica, mostly relating to digestive issues and mental dysfunction. Upon quitting, I suffered withdrawal effects, some of which are with me still. Side effects from using as well as quitting Lyrica are with me 2 years later.

Others have reported of serious side effects that have persisted after quitting the drug. Done have reported a remission of symptoms that lasted for months if not longer after stopping Lyrica.

Has anyone here had persistent Lyrica side effects after quitting and had them clear up months or years later? I hope so, as this would give me some shred of hope. Thanks.

Hi ~ I'm on Lyrica now, in addition to Opana, and I'm not sure which one is doing it, --- I'm pretty sure it's the Lyrica cause I started that 2nd, but it does make me a little "loopy" and i've been on it quite awhile. It hasn't gone away yet, so it looks like it's not gonna. The problem is, the loopiness doesn't start until after I've taken the pill & 4 hours later. In other words, I take my pill and 4-5 hours later I feel loopy. I guess it must be extended release or something. ??? So i can't take it if I'm going to be driving that day.

But combined with the Opana, it takes my pain away almost 100% until the next dose is due. If I wait too long until my next dose, I'm so crippled I can't even WALK! So this stuff is powerful!

hi Lee. I have been on Lyrica since it came out.....125 mg bid. I had wild side effects for the first three months. Within 20 minutes of taking it, the room was spinning and I was holding on to the walls. This lasted 2-3 hours per dose. Since I don't work, I would set my alarm for 6 am, take the Lyrica and sleep in until around nine feeling fine. I took my second dose at bedtime which work well as a sleeping pill.

It has worked well for nerve pain up until a year ago. I haven't worked up the nerve to taper off of it yet as I have read all of the horror stories. When I do, it will be one long, slow taper as I have had trouble with my Part D paying for it twice. Both times it took six weeks to get it cleared up and the w/d was unbelievable and never slacked off until I got back on it. Wicked stuff. I have no idea how it got FDA approval.

The local kids around here use it as a party pill and call it Big L. That should tell the FDA something. Take care.

That amazes me but but not much surprises me anymore. I cannot fathom what qualities about lyrica would condone party activity. Weird little whipper snappers now days.

I agree. The sensations I experienced when starting on it were anything but pleasant. I had to go to bed immediately as it was dangerous to be up. I think it is a dangerous med. that wasn't tested properly. Of course it is no big surprise to find the FDA in bed with Big Pharma.

I'm not surprised that it didn't do too much to me. I'm REALLY hard to medicate. I'm one of those who wakes up on the operating table with GENERAL anesthesia. I've done it 3 times already. The doctors are amazed at my ability to take massive doses of medications. Of course they think I'm a junkie -- which I NEVER have been. I take after my Dad who would do the same thing. Don't have a clue what causes it, but it's a but unnerving when they're cutting on you and you can't tell them you're awake cause you're on your FACE while they're chopping up your spine!

It did (as well as the DEA), and that's likely why it's a controlled substance, albeit Schedule V, whereas gabapentin is not. Go figure.

I know I am totally biased but I think it should be contolled out the back door. I can't wait to get the scs implant so I can begin a nice SLOW taper. Pain Man doesn't want to change any meds until I get the implant and go through the Fibro flair. Have a good weekend.
