Can you please tell me your experiences with Imitrex? How well did it help you (for your headaches)?
Also, what dose helped best? Thanks. Last edited by InHisHands; 04-27-2007 at 11:26 AM. |

I started taking Imitrex when it was introduced (I think) and it helped me very little. For what it cost I really thought it should and I kept trying it. I don't remember the dosage at all - sorry.
Then Maxalt was introduced and I tried that. Maxalt helped me a great deal more and I stopped Imitrex completely. Then came A...(starts with an A????) and F...(starts with an F) and Relpax (Please forgive me. I do have trouble with speech now ) I'm trying to name the Triptans. Relpax is the one that helps my headaches/migraines the most. But I know that each of the triptans works for each person in a different way. What works best for me will not work so well for you and so on. Your doctor may be able to give you some samples of Imitrex so you can try it. I sure hope so. I'll say a little prayer for you. |

I tried 5 mg. of Imitrex which helped a little. My Dr. told me that it should work if she increased the dose. She increased it to 10 mg. and it helped a LOT!! Then as I felt my migraine return I took the next dose of 10 mg. two hours later. I know that it is used up to 20 mg.. I was just wondering about anyone else's experience, and was wondering if they felt that the longer they used imitrex the less it worked? Thanks for the prayers. I like your name, by the way. |

http://www.migrainehelp.com/4.about_...t_imitrex.html I agree with Peppermint that the most commonly liked (and refilled) triptan is Maxalt. A person I know has used them all, and Maxalt is the one she prefers. I have even seen chronic migraineurs use 100mg of Imitrex tablets EVERY DAY... try getting YOUR insurance to approve that one!

Imitrex Injection always helps with my migraines. But an old timey medicine call MIDRIN helps just as well if I take it in time. Imitrex can cause "chest pain" and some other unpleasant side effects. Hope this helps. Janet

And I finally remembered my "A" ....that's Axert, and "F"...that's Frova. (Boy, I hope that's right)
I like both of those triptans much more than Imitrex. My former neuro used to write a prescription for two or three triptans because my insurance would, of course, pay for only one refill of a medication each month. And a triptan prescription of one month is 6 pills -- 6 pills -- and they are usually $14 each. |

I have tried many of them. Imitrex was fine, it worked but slowly. I tried maxalt and something in the taste adn the sublingual made me gag. Frova did nothing for me, no eefect I could discern.
My tried and true is an old one but it always works and the docs always look at me askew when i tell them i tae ti and they say wow thats old there are new better meds. But it works for me. Its called Fiorcet. |

The imitrex has stopped working for me. My Dr is sending me to a neurologist to get the migraines checked out. Thank you for all the replies! |
