Default Ivig

I recently had my first IVIG treatment and whilst a little nervous prior to the start, it went relatively without incident until after the treatment had finished and I returned home. The infusion was started very slowly at 10ML per hour, and then increased to 15 for the first 200ML bottle. The final dose six days later went in at 50ML per hour. I did experience headaches during the last 800ML. Having left the hospital a little tired, I was happy to be back at home until 3 days after the treatment finished I started to see lots of tiny bumps on my hand that soon spread to much of the rest of my body. They itch quite a lot and sting when they rupture. I called my GP who told me this was quite common and I should take antihistamine. I would welcome any feedback from others who have had such reactions, and advice if I should do anything else.

It is pretty commen while recieving IVIG that they automatically run benydril and steriods as an infusion during the IVIG infusion to cut down on the side affects. See what your protocol is when you go in for your next infusion, and always have someone drive you home if they do give you an antihistamine as it can make you tired. Best of luck!
