IT SEEMS TO BE THAT THE NEW THING TO GET HOOKED ON THESE DAYS,OTHER THAN METH,BUT INCLUDED WITH METH,IS PAIN KILLERS! THESE OXY-CONTINS ARE GOING ON THE STREET LIKE HOT CAKES,FOR $1.00 PER MG.,WHEN THEY COME IN 20-40-60-80MG PILLS,AND KIDS,AND ADULTS ARE WILLING TO PAY THIS PRICE FOR ONE PILL! I'VE BEEN ON THIS DRUG BEFORE AFTER A KNEE SURGERY YEARS AGO,BUT I DON'T REMEMBER GETTING HIGH OFF IT,I DO REMEMBER NOT BEING IN AS MUCH PAIN.I ACTUALLY PLAYED IN A BASKETBALL GAME 2 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY ON BOTH KNEES,I JUST PUT MY CRUTCHES TO THE SIDE,AND WENT IN,BANDAGES AND ALL! IT TOOK THE PAIN AWAY THAT WELL,BUT I WASN'T HIGH,I WAS JUST SET TO WIN THAT GAME,AND WE DID,IT WAS THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!
 BUT THESE PILLS ARE GETTING THESE KIDS OUT OF CONTROL,I KNOW BECAUSE MY 3 YOUNGEST BROTHERS ARE ALL HOOKED ON THEM,AND THIER FRIENDS TO! ONE OF THOSE 3 BROTHERS HAS WRITTEN ME OFF,BECAUSE I WON'T ALLOW HIM IN MY HOUSE,HE STEALS FOR THEM,AND HE SAYS ANYTHING TO TRY TO CONVINCE ME TO GIVE HIM SOME OF MY PAIN PILLS! AND SINCE I WON'T,I'M NOW THE ENEMY IN HIS EYE'S,HE THINKS I DON'T CARE ABOUT HIM,BECAUSE I WON'T COMMIT FELONY FOR HIM!WHEN I ACTUALLY NEED MY PILLS FOR MY PAIN,THEY DON'T EVEN GET ME HIGH.I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY WOULD GET HIM HIGH.BUT HE WON'T EVEN TALK TO ME NOW! MY OTHER LITTLE BROTHER JUST GOT MARRIED,AND I WAS TOLD NOT TO BE THERE,HE DOESN'T WANT HIS NEW WIFE TO KNOW ABOUT HIS ADDICTION! (that marriage is really gonna last)HE'S ALSO AN (he says ex)HEROINE ADDICT,BUT THE 3RD BROTHER RESPECTS ME,AND KNOWS THAT I NEED MY MEDICATION FOR MY PAIN,SO HE DOESN'T EVEN GO THERE! HE'S THE BROTHER THAT LOVES ME!  BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THESE PAIN PILLS GET THESE KIDS HIGH,BUT NOT ME,EVEN THOUGH THAT'S NOT WHY I TAKE THEM,IT'S JUST A CURIOSITY? ANYBODY KNOW?

They crush them and snort or inject them which bypasses the controlled release mechanism, and the high is similar to heroin but a very high grade and safe (so to speak) product.

Hi Justice
People get "hooked" for many different reasons. There is, of course, the physical side. But there is also an emotional side that is less understood. I have been around many drug addicts in my days, and the major problem is that they are using the meds to hide from their realities. If you can't think, you can't feel or hurt emotionally. As soon as they begin thinking again, they start a desperate search for their next high. But as far as them getting high and you not, that's easy to explain. Anasazi is right about the way they take them making a huge difference. I'm betting you've never crushed and snorted or injected your pain pills, lol. Stick with that, hon! Doing it "their way" is obviously a bad idea. I have been on major pain killers for 14 years now. I take Baclofen (muscle relaxer), Vicodin and Morphine. When someone has true pain, all the meds do is lessen the pain... they don't remove it entirely. When you're still hurting, you aren't getting high off them. I still worry, though... a smart thing to do, i.m.h.o., lol. So once a month I go without any relief for 24 hours. The pain is insane for that day, but the mental relief I get is well worth it. If all you feel on that day is the pain, then you are ok. But if you get any of the withdrawl symptoms in that 24 hrs., then it's time to talk to your dr. A.S.A.P.

THE SNORTING IS WHAT GOT MY BROTHER HOOKED ON HIS OXY'S.SO I DON'T AND NEVER HAVE SNORTED OR CRUSHED,OR INJECTED MINE,THEY ARE TIME RELEASED AND IF I DID THOSE THINGS THEY WOULD WEAR OFF A LOT SOONER.THE VALIUM,THERE'S NO NEED TO CRUSH,IT'S NOT TIME RELEASED! LOL..BUT HE STILL DOES IT TO PILLS THAT AREN'T TIME RELEASED.BUT I'VE BEEN ON MORPHINE AND VALIUM FOR YEARS,AND ONE TIME SOME GOT STOLEN,AND I RAN OUT EARLY.I STARTED FEELING MAD WITHDRAWALS,SO I STAYED OFF THEM FOR 3 MONTHS,AND WENT THROUGH EXCRUTIATING PAIN,BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO BE HOOKED,AND WANTED TO LOWER MY TOLERANCE,IT WORKED! WHEN I GOT BACK ON THEM,I WAS ABLE TO START BACK ON A LOWER DOSE! BUT MY BROTHER DOESN'T UNDERSTAND HOW I CAN HAVE THEM,AND NOT SNORT THEM.I EXPLAIN IT TO HIM,AND HE STILL THINKS I'M NUTS!
