Default Metronidazole/PN

First let me say I do not have a STD, I'm old. I was given this med and I don't think it addresses what is actually wrong but tried to take it to jump through the hoops until they figure it out.

I couldn't find it listed as a potential trigger of PN here but it sure is, there is a warning in the literature. I took one dose and could feel it and am not taking it again. I hope it goes away, it said it usually does but it has been known to cause permanent PN at high doses.

Lightbulb

Brand name is Flagyl. Yes it causes PN and also makes
white lesions in the brain.

One dose should not be much of an issue. Drink lots of water to
flush it out.

Thanks for the 411. It illustrates the importance of reading the literature (and beyond). I also see that...

There is some evidence from studies in rats that supports the possibility of metronidazole may contribute to serotonin syndrome, although no case reports documenting this have been published to date.

I only bring this up due to the number of folks here that take other serotonin boosting meds.

Thanks for the responses, I didn't know what she had sent to the pharmacy, I knew there was something bad about that med and would have discussed it if I had known. I went in because I hurt myself exercising ....

I actually only took 1/2 the prescribed dose, the 500mg tablet was scored and I was paranoid after I read the side effects so cut it. What surprised me was the strength of the PN response, for me at least it was a very potent trigger.

They use it for a variety of bacterial infections but no more for me.
