Default Bad side effects on lyrica, should I take gabapentin?

As I understand they are both same class of drug
I was on pregabaine 50mg in the evening
Was extremely effective, in a week made me almost pain free
Unfortunately it made my body twitch, my toes in my feet had a life on their own and I could see fasciculations clearly under the skin
Called the neurologist, said to stop lyrica and everything went back to normal
I'm happy as it was freaking me out, but pain is back
He suggested I can try small dose (150mg) of gabapentin before sleep
Lyrica was working so well so I'd like to try, but I don't know if this makes sense, all weird side effects just make me anxious, so I don't want any of them
My intuition tells me it can be the same
Neuro said it's first time somebody reports something like this to him after lyrica...seems like he doesn't know much about it, as it's stated clearly by Pfizer
Just tried cannabis yesterday (I've been a smoker for years, so there is nothing new to this substance, but I'm not looking for high now, but the pain relief), doesn't seem to have any effect on the pain, just gets me high and helps me sleep, but that's not what I'm looking for as a relief
Lyrica was taking the pain away, that's what I'm looking for...
After reading horror stories on cymbalta withdraws and suffering weird stuff from really small dose of lyrica I don't think I'll like to jump on that boat either
I really need something that works to get my life back

Really really confused

Why are you taking these meds? Just curious. I'm guessing pain but wondering from what issues. We've discussed the subject on "can more and more pain meds cause more pain"...

I deal with bodywide OA and work to avoid these meds....I've heard over and over the side effects and work with alternatives for my pain issues. MSM in higher doses thru the day really help to reduce the pain I live with...I've been using MSM for many years and a couple other main relievers. C

Neuropathic pain
I'm trying hard to find a good specialist to look for a cause, current neuro is not really interested in looking for it
He just said it's "probably" of compressive origin and should be self limited
All he did was EMG

I am too sorry you had to experience the withdrawal
It upset the heck out of me when they would not listen to me about the withdraw
The Lexapro is what took me into a deep deep suicidal thoughts
and only coming out of a depression with the help of something new in my life

This was my experience
The latter was severe blisters in mouth
On hands and feet

Default Hey banjanti :)

I tried Lyrica but it caused me to have a horrible stomach ache. My neuro said he'd never heard of that before but the stomach ache went away as soon as I stopped it.

I had come off gabapentin to try the Lyrica and that's when I discovered the gabapentin was working for me some. But I'll take the 'some'. I have severe small fiber neuropathy.

I'm on 1,800 mgs of gabapentin a day. I can't take more than that or I start hearing muffled music/talking

I've just recently come off the BuTrans patch, 20 mcg/hr and am on 15 mg ER morphine. I think I need the 30 mg but as of my last dr visit my dr did not want to increase this. That's a whole other story !

I think it would be worth giving it a try.

Please keep us posted.

Eva that wasn't withdraw but the medicine itself causing it, stopped the very next day when discontinued it
No withdraw symptoms but I was taking 50/day for a week
Weirdly enough it was working really fast and good for the pain in that small dose

Debi thanks for sharing your experience. I'll probably just try, but from what I read I need way more to feel the effect
He said just to take 150 before bed, apparently effective dose starts at 900

That is awesome
And yes you are right
You would NOT experience of withdrawal symptoms
I was on both the meds you speak of
Cymbalta for a month
As the doctor would say
Let it get into your system
Only to be taken off
And not listening to me about the withdrawals
That is why I do not take may meds
That DO CAUSE WITHDRAWALS when on them for
Three weeks or more

I am happy you are spared the terrible feelings that come with coming off meds

Be well
Hope you find the right med
Or cocktail for that matter
I am sure you understand
Me

Thanks!
Sometimes I think it's for the best indeed that side effects shows up and made me discontinue fairly fast before I had to deal with withdraw
Thanks why I'm reluctant to try another gaba drug only to discover it's causing something similar
But I cannot function normally so I'm desperate for something that would give me my life back

There are days I'm almost fine, there are days feet just burn bad and I'm desperate to try it
