Granted many meds can cause horrid constipation. I had an issue when I tried LDN and then the opiates of course before and after hip surgery.

Extra extra magnesium works best for me. I also use 1 AloeLax by Nature's Way with my evening magnesium. I take mag thru the day, 3-5 doses. Some of my mag contains oxide but for many they can get too loose bowels.

Extra Vit C helps me too. 1000mg a few times per day.

When I get into bigger trouble Calms mag power in warm/hot water with lemon does a good job.

I've talked to people who drink hot water with lemon nightly and had a guy I worked with years ago who drank 1-2 glasses of warm water with lemon every morning.

Extra Warm water makes good sense. Stay away from too cold liquids. Stick with greens as much as one can. This is my regime. C

I juggle daily what I'm taking and no longer take for granted going to the toilet. I take Movicol sachets and increase / decrease depending on how much pain relief I absolutely need to get by. Sadly I no longer take the required pain relief dose due to so many bowel obstructions requiring hospital admission via the ED department and been kept in up to ten days. Now I keep a very close eye on what I take and adjust my Movicol have been up to 4 sachets a day. I tried Targin which has 40/20 then 20/10 and 10/5. Made no difference at all.

Movicol and diet, lots of greens, but treading a very fine line as I'm not allowed any more than 12mg fibre a day as I have so many adhesions. Between the adhesions and pain relief medication I struggle to manage my pain. I will try the magnesium idea again, it upset my tummy before but that might be a good thing lol

I have used the Yakima Fruit Recipe on/off for years. I skip the sugar and lemon, however. I put a tablespoon on toast in the morning. It freezes well in a jar and does not get like a rock...you can scoop out what you need for the week. This recipe portion lasts for many months.

or, when I am lazy or cannot get the ingredients, I use 3 Sennokot Plus and 5-6 prunes each night.

or

just 6-8 prunes or a large glass of prune juice with a full glass of water.

YAKIMA FRUIT PASTE

DOSE: 1-2 tablespoons per day

1 pound prunes
1 pound raisins-pitted
1 pound figs
4 oz senna tea (look in your health food store, it looks like a bunch of leaves)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup lemon juice

1. Prepare tea-use about 2 1/2 cups boiled water added to tea and steep 5 minutes.
2. Strain tea to remove tea leaves and add only 1 pint tea to a large pot, then add fruit.
3. Boil fruit and tea for 5 minutes.
4. Remove from heat and add sugar & lemon juice. Allow to cool.
5. Use hand mixer or food processor to blend fruit mixture into smooth paste.
6. Place in plastic container and place in freezer. (Paste will not freeze but will keep forever in freezer).
7. Spoon out what you require each day.

* If the fruit paste is not working (you are not having bowel movements) then you need to increase the amount of fruit paste you are taking.

* If the fruit paste makes you have very loose stools then you need to cut down on the amount of fruit paste you are taking. Perhaps even taking it every other day in some cases.
as well.

I have come upon a remedy for constipation that requires no change in diet. It's an activity you do on the toilet. It sounds crazy but it works 90% of the time. PM me if you want the details. I'm not kidding.

Crazy

I told one person and he hasn't responded yet. I take that as an "I don't believe you". It does sound crazy but it has worked for me. Sorry there are so many skeptics.

I have problems from my blood pressure and COPD meds and tried everything as well. The only thing I have found that makes me normal again is Siggi's Yogurt, I don't know why because most other yogurts and probiotics made me worse but Siggi's must have something a little different.

Shocked

I have searched for info on Vibration Machines and haven't come up with what I saw on some show about stuff in an old building for sale. It was a chair that vibrated FOR constipated patients. This caught my eye so I did a bit of research myself.

I learned that a vibration going through the body stimulates going. But how was a problem. How do you vibrate yourself. Easy when you think about it. Your heels. Raising and dropping your heels in a rhythmic pattern causes a vibration to go through your body. But you must concentrate and be patient.

I take enough magnesium thru the day but don't want the "runs"....so MOST mornings after I do my stretching and moving around on my bed and massaging my stomach it loosens things up and off to the bathroom..it's like clockwork MOST days. That's my vibration, my body and hands. Getting fluids going in the AM do the tricks for many.
