Help Help with managing drug interactions

Hi everyone,
I've already posted this message in the peripheral neuropathy subforum, but I figured I'd also post it here, in case anyone who lurks on here has any answers.

Recently I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy (via a skin punch biopsy). I've decided to try out taking vitamins B6, folate, and B12, as there is evidence in favor of their together reversing small fiber neuropathy (see: Management of diabetic small-fiber neuropathy with combination L-methylfolate, methylcobalamin, and pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. - PubMed - NCBI and Metanx in type 2 diabetes with peripheral neuropathy: a randomized trial. - PubMed - NCBI ).

The thing is, I'm already taking other medications for various health issues. Is there any consulting service (even a paid one is fine) that can guide me through the process of managing drug interactions? Or do you know of any professional who will offer consultations purely based around managing drug interactions? Ideally it would be best if they're also familiar with managing interactions between drugs and essential oils, as well as other natural supplements (such as berberine).

Many thanks for any help.

On the drug interaction issues, you could do a search with some of your drugs and supplements you may want to take.

Ones that really concern you, talk to a "smart" pharmacist.

Personally, I choose to use about ALL supplements for my health and know that some I take thin and clean the blood but better thinner blood than clotting blood. Those taking pharma blood thinners have to be aware of that. Many on blood thinners will bruise easier when they add too much Vit C and others. So I know that much.

There are many interaction checkers online..here's a few -

Drug Interaction Checker - Find Interactions Between Medications

Drug Interactions Checker - Check Your Brand and Generic Drugs - RxList

Thanks for the reply! Do pharmacists offer any individualized consultation services? Do you have any recommendations of someone I could ask?

I wouldn't mind paying for it. I'm planning to start forms of vitamin B6, vitamin B9, and vitamin B12- in addition to stuff I'm already taking- as apparently B6, B9, and B12, together have the potential to reverse small fiber neuropathy.

Hi...
Did they find the cause of your SFN?
Is it due to one of the conditions you’re currentlt being managed for?
Are you willing to share?
Thank you very much.

Default I think the degree of reversal of the neuropathy--

--would very much depend on the original cause.

The B-vitamins are neuroprotective (although one has to watch out for megadosing B6 if one has particular metabolic profiles), and of course one can experience small fiber neuropathy from deficiencies of B1, B2, B12, and others.
But given the difficulty and slowness of nerve regeneration, the amount of relief and reversal one can get would be highly variable.

It's not that one shouldn't optimize one's supplemental vitamins and/or minerals, but the results one gets are likely to be highly variable and cause dependent--I doubt, for example, that one who has neuropathy from certain blood autoimmunites such as monoclonal gammopathy (MGUS) is going to see that much effect just from supplements alone--the underlying autoimmune problem needs to be treated as well.

Hi! Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I didn't see this post. Nope- a cause for my SFN hasn't yet been found. I suspect it may have been due to a shingles outbreak I experienced a couple years prior to the onset of my SFN.

There are so many causes for neuropathy and I believe someone mentioned 200 here, sounds like a lot...

I;ve posted to many on how Inosine helps what I deal with from a hip surgery many yrs ago, 10 soon...

Read up on Inosine and since Inositol is from the B family, Inosine may also be.

Is there any documented evidence that people can be deficient in either inositol or inosine and that these alleged deficiencies can be important in neuropathy?
