Shortly after I was given my Rx, a friend told me that one of her in-laws had also been prescribed the same. He had recently lost one of his legs. Approx two months after I quit taking Cymbalta she sent me an obit out of her local paper. It was the brother-in-law's obituary. He was a suicide. Neither my experience nor the brother-in-law's suicide were ever "reported". I believe that there are as many unreported adverse reactions to Cymbalta as there are reported complaints. Why is it still on the market and being prescribed? Just one more reality I don't understand.

With Cymbalta's liver effects/toxicity, and severe withdrawal effects (up to 50% of people are affected by this withdrawal), I don't see any advantage to it, over Effexor.
Wyeth you know, is coming out with a new version of Effexor: http://psychcentral.com/news/2007/12...sion/1654.html It remains to be seen how Pristiq will affect people. Looks like a considerable side effect profile, with those study subjects dropping out. I am waiting for the substance P blockers. Those might turn out to be better in the long run. But they are not here yet.

I was on Cymbalta for 6 months. I went off it about a month and half ago. I weaned though. I was on 60mg. Anyhow it did nothing for my pain. I still feared though going off it in case it did do something but I have been off for that time and have not noticed a difference. I have been on many meds before this for depression/anxiety/ocd. So on the depression note I had that already so it didn't cause me more. When I went off it I did it gradually.I still feared though the side effects because of what I read bad stories. The docs I have seen that I told I was on this are suprised I have not had better results like most people do but I have not heard that from patients. Also the issue I have is I wonder and have no clue of meds and how they work with the brain but if this cymbalta is more for people with depression that feel fatigue/pain from that then from nerve or other pain similar. Like the tv commercial said. For pain associated with depression. Its an expensive drug too. I have no med coverage and this was like 140 a month but Lyrica was more I think which I had horrible results with. I also have liver well not now but was when precribed this med so I have no idea why they did that. I guess cause no other meds helped.
