Default Pain mang dr put me on 10 mg oxy 2xa day...

The pain dr changed me to oxy 10 mg every 12 hours and so far it works pretty good. Alothough I do think I might need a little bit of a stronger dose. Does anyone know what the next level of oxy is? My dr does not give break thru meds so I need to know what to ask for when I go back on the 16th. Any advise would be appriciated I do think the oxy is helping more then the patch did.

Heart

I don't know about the dosages, ((((((BG)))))),

But, you have to ramp up very carefully on that drug. It's very powerful.

We lost someone that we cared for a lot on the old BrainTalk forum because she was ramped up way too fast.

Give your body time to adjust and take extra good care of yourself now -- enough sleep, good food, flowers, bubble baths -- things to lift your spirit while your pain is being relieved.

I'm glad you're finally seeing some pain relief. I know what a blessing that is

Question Oxycontin often does not last 12 hrs...

for many people it is an 8hr deal. This came out postmarketing.. and is quite common. I think it has to do with GI transit time, and the way the tablets are made. Most doctors are aware of this. And you should report it to the doctor.
Tell him what is good about it first...that is does work, for example...and then
tell him it is wearing off before 12 hrs is up.

Moose~~ are you talking about "Debbie" from spinal disorders?
She was mismanaged on methadone and that was the problem. Methadone when started too high (to match the previous Oxy dosage) can cause cardiac arrhythmias in certain genetically prone people.

Default oxy dosages

I have been on oxy 10 mg for 4 years with no problems.
The dosages are 10, 20, 40, and 80mg for the long lasting Oxycontin.

Oxycocet which is the short acting comes in 5 mg and is good fro breakthrough pain.

The 10mg oxy does NOT last 12 hours. Typically 7-8 hours.
So I take 10 oxy in the morning of the long acting, then a short acting at about 5pm and then 10 long acting again before bed.

Or you can take 20mg twice a day buteven the 20 will likely not last 12 hours and I found 20 was too strong to function.

Good luck
Julie

Thank you all so much for the input. It seems to be working quite well for me but I do have break thru pain . My dr does NOT give anything for break thru pain except mucsle relaxers. So I dont know, I will tell him I'm having break thru pain and see what he says.

I have heard through the grapevine IE; Purdue Pharma that there are new versions of Oxycontin available as of 02/01/08 They are 5mg 15mg 30mg 60mg

I guess they've had the patent on these for awhile but they weren't being manufactured for sale in the US until just recently.
