Default Question re topamax and Lyrica

I need to come off topamax (currently taking taking 100mg daily) and start lyrica, can anybody out there tell me if I have to wait a few weeks before the switch. I live in Spain, access to doctors advice not easy here. I have syringomyelia c4 - t10. Any input gratefully received.

Thanks,

Louise

I didn't stop taking topamax to use lyrica. but if you need to stop, you should probably taper off slowly.

Are you ataking several small dose pills - I take four 25 mg pills at night. If so, maybe something like this: reduce by one pill, see if you're okay in a week, try reducing another. If not stay at the dose another week or two then drop down.

Seems like top would be one of the easier ones to taper off of, but I could be wrong. It does not seem as drastic as some though - like ADs. They are always a pain.

I have not heard anyone who had to wait in between - a lot of us have used them together. Ooh - idea... click on the med link at the top of the page and see if there's a warning about drug interactions on either of them. That might help.

I was taking Topamax and Lyrica together...I stopped taking them both by tapering off...but now I have to take the Topamax.

I just took the Topamax every other day, then every three days then once a week then not at all.

Thank you both for your replies.

It is interesting to know I could take both medications. I will see how the headaches go and if need be restart the Topamax, maybe the Topamax will counteract the weight gain aspects of the Lyrica. I already checked out the drug interactions list.

Thanks again.

Louise
