Question Ways to Keep Hair Healthy

After visiting with my hairdresser today, she suggested I search the internet to find ways to keep my hair more healthy because she believes my frequent dry ends may be due to the medications I take.

Does anyone else's hair suffer from all the medications you take, and if so, what type of shampoo/conditioner do you recommend? I've seen this topic discussed somewhere before, but I can not find the reference now. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I'm kinda in the same boat except mine is falling out!!! By the handfulls!! I have cried myself to sleep over it (I know that sounds vain) but I have always had really thick nice hair. I just turned 40 last month and now my hair is falling out! I did go to the dr and he checked my thyroid but all was good. He told me to start taking something called AG Pro. So far I cannot tell if it is helping. My hair has really thinned out over the past four months and I have to believe it is stress, med induced. How to stop it I do not know.

Balmy - did he do all the thyroid tests not just TSH? Just wondering if he tested for both thyroid antibodies.

Also might want to have hm check your sex hormones, like estrogen and testosterone. Sometimes PCOS can cause hair loss.

Here is what I use to help my hair. First is a supplement called biotin. Taking 3000mcg a day.

Also might want to make sure you take some fish oil. Might help the dryness.

Second I use the kerstase line. The Bain Satin line is very gentle and helps rebuild.

The other one I would recommend is the Nioxin line.

Hope you find some answers.

Lightbulb What medications?

Some drugs deplete zinc. Others just damage hair.

You'd be amazed how many drugs are implicated in this.

Yes, thyroid is a cuplrit, too. So are hormones for some women.

This thread discusses the subject and has a link to a drug list.

Thank you all for your replies . . . they are very useful. And balmygirl 3, I hope you find a solution to your hair falling out. The link that mrsd provided has good information in it, and should help everyone with hair problems.
