Default Insulin dosage for Type II diabetes

My friend is taking 180 units of insulin per day for her diabetes.
She's 62 years old and overweight. Her doctor prescribed it approx. 2 months ago. She says her "#'s" have not changed. She is concerned because friends (not medical personnel) have told her that this an extraordinarily high dosage.
I would appreciate any comments or recommendations to give to my friend.
