Default Diclofenac?

I lost my health insurance and called my PCP to see if there was a cheaper drug to replace my Baclofen - the nurse called back and said yes Diclofenac - she would call it in for me. Well, I haven't picked it up yet but did some research on it and it is a pain drug not a muscle relaxer for spasms like Baclofen.

I am a little confused and just wondered if any one else took Diclofenac for spasms / spasticity?

I'm a bit perplexed here myself Yabbit.

Diclofenac, or Voltaren as it's commonly known as, is an anti inflammatory used in the treatment of arthritis. If I remember correctly, Voltaren was taken off the market here a while back because of it's nasty side effects (like heart attacks).

I can't understand you being ordered this medication for spasms, and knowing what I do about the drug, I'm at a loss to understand how it could possibly help in any way for the condition your doctor has ordered them.

In MHO, you'd have better luck using Magnesium than Voltaren.

I don't like the idea either - actually I haven't even picked it up at the pharmacy yet, I am going to call tomorrow and ask her just to refill the Baclofen and I will come up with the money.

I took my Magnesium this morning as well as the Baclofen - I have enough to last me until Wednesday so I will take what I have and call first thing Monday morning.

When I researched it I was a little surprised she did it too. I only spoke with the nurse - I also take Darvocet for pain, I am wondering if she asked the PCP about the Darvocet instead of Baclofen??

...my ortho just prescribed me voltaren gel for my frozen shoulder when it hurts too bad.

Hopefully MrsD will be back soon to help us.

I never heard of this med. Maybe you should call them back and verify they asked about the right med and tell them you know it's for pain and inflamation, not spasms. Hopefully that is what happened.

We commonly gave Votaren or diclofenac for muscle pain to menstrual cramps, but as an anti inflammatory NOT and antispasmodic! I'd call the doc back and say maybe you misunderstood, my pain is from spasms not inflammation!

Question ???

If you have been on baclofen for a long time (more than months) then stopping cold turkey can have some major withdrawal symptoms.

If you take baclofen for spasms, I cannot see how Voltaren (diclofenac) can help. Some medical people think that drugs' names are similar. Baclofen sounds like ibuprofen....this is just an example. In some cases drug names borrow the endings...
Triptans for headache for example. Sometimes this signals a "family" of drugs related...and other times it does NOT.

Baclofen is a generic. You are not going to get it any less expensive for that reason. Its brand name is Lioresal.

Here is a link to pricing from Costco..it is typical for other places:
http://www.costco.com/Pharmacy/frame...ticle=BACLOFEN

Kroger and WalMart may have comparable pricing.
What are YOU paying for yours? You need to call around and ask other pharmacies their prices. I find this "high" that you can't afford confusing.

Lightbulb I just found

the WalMart hand-out about their pricing of generics:

90 day supply of Baclofen 10mg is $10.
