Smile Hi Mistiis!

Welcome with your good question, and I very much agree with the thoughts of you addressing this with your prescribing doctor so they are aware of the side effect. My doc took me from 1800mg Lyrica per day through a titration series weaning me off of Lyrica to a 3000mg per day approach with Neurontin for severe neuropathic pain lower lumbar into legs. The whole process was done carefully and over a period of time so as to minimize side effects. The "dumbing down" effect was my predicament on the nerve meds.... that and the fact of the simultaneous prescription of opiates and sleep meds. Once I had SCS successfully implanted, I weaned off of all pain meds.

Interestingly, Gramma writes about Neurontin use for treatment of anxiety. This catches my attention particularly since I had been at the 3000mg for years and then under doc's care weaned off of the med I dipped into a dramatic and overwhelming depression complicated by anxiety. Once we medicated me through that issue, I have been in very good spirits for almost a year! That, and I have been able to return to work in my profession.

May all be well with you,
Mark56

I have been wishing I could drop my gabapentin dosage now. I've been in physical therapy for 7 weeks, and find that strength training is helping with the leg cramps.

Right now I take 100 in the early afternoon and 900 before bed. When I try to drop down even by 100 mg/day, I get depressed and jittery.

I would like to know what this drug does to the nervous system. I know it has something to do with "Gaba". And a question for Mark56, What medication was effective for your depression while you were weaning off gabapentin?

Anyone else here successfully discontinued this med.?
