hi all,

i have a kind of strange problem and i am not exactly sure this is the right place to ask. first of all i am agoraphobic with panic disorder, and when i went to my appointment with my new pain dr i was not "in my right mind". i was in a severe panic attack when he was talking to me. i ended up getting a epidural steroid injection. had i been coherent before consenting i would have asked if the steroid reaction would be the same as from oral. i am not allergic, but have horrendous side effects, from oral steroids bad enough that my gp won't give them to me for anything short of a life threatening asthma attack anymore. my question now is, with oral, the side effects go away very soon after i stop taking them, but from my understanding these injections(which so far has shown no sign of helping) can last up to a year. does anyone know how long the side effects from the steroids in them can last? my panic is so bad i can hardly leave my closet, let alone my house. this is not the only symptom but most are not as bad, and a couple are rather embarrassing to post here. i would appreciate any help, and if this is in the wrong forum could someone put it in the proper one?

Hi there,

Well, I got a steroid injection almost two weeks ago. And boy did I have a reaction. Although it took about a day to kick in.

I called my endocrinologost and she said that the immediate effects of the shot last about 2 to 3 weeks with the most effect and the beginning and then slowly declining.

thank you, all i had been able to get from the dr that did it is you shouldn't be having side effects from the steroids. i think he should have asked before he did it if i have adverse effects from steroids. i won't be going back there again.

It could be the numbing agent if your doctor used it. I always have a reaction to the numbing med NOT the steroid for a couple of days. And I say this because I asked my own PM a long time ago why I would have the jitters that bad and he said it was probably the Marcaine or Lidocaine; whatever it was LOL. And I think he was right because the jitters went away within a couple of days. Normally, the steroid doesn't start working right away...takes awhile for it to kick in. And I have noticed this as well when using just one Lidoderm patch; my heart will race and I get jittery.

You have not told us what steroids you have been given specifically... corticosteriods or anabolic steroids?

Also Panic attacks/agoraphobia (my mom suffers form this also) are linked to GABA/Sertonin imbalances as well as dopamine imbalances in the brain. So it would be good to test your serotonin levels as well as 24 hour urine dopamine levels so see where you stand with those hope this helps.

This thread is about injectable corticosteroids used for chronic inflammatory conditions that cause chronic pain.

There are very few if ANY posts here on injectable anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids are dangerous. Dangerous to the heart and mind.

Ive been on prednisone for 13 yrs and get depressed.It does mess with your body. but the alternative is worse. I have inflammatory disease and its so painful,even with narcotics.
