Default How many years? decades?

Since my spine surgery failed and I've been told I have to live with leg/back pain forever (and the pain is constantly getting worse) - and my mom is 98 and I'm 59.... I'm wondering what is the longest anyone has taken any particular pain medication and : has it continued to work? has it had major side effects like liver damage?
Any info would be appreciated!

you absolutely need to be with a pain management doc, you need tylenol free meds...that can be titrated up as needed. and sceduled reviews with an orthopod to see if there have been any new things discovered/invented to remedy the prob with your spine...also, please check out our spinal disorders forum, here at neuro talk.......take care

Thank you for the advice - I hadn't thought to ask about tylenol as an ingredient! I used to go to a great pain mgmt guy in NYC for Epidural Steroid Injections, but after about a dozen, and after my annual checkup a few years ago it showed I have developed osteoporosis right where I get the injections, so he won't do more unless I go on osteoporosis medication. I tried and had terrible stomach problems, so they wanted me to do the I.V. version (Zometa) but I am really not interested after reading some of the side effects and don't trust any of those drugs anyway....
I will follow up on the pain meds, though...
Thanks again!
