Default Any thoughts H1N1 vaccine?

I teach young children- ages 3-5, a large percentage of my kids are English Language Learners. Does anyone have any early information about this vaccine for kids- and adults? Are the possible benefits worth the possible side effects. Just pondering- thanks so much.

It is really hard to know at this point.

I just had a CE in my private e-mail with a quote from
Napolitano stating that if this flu behaves like the pandemic flu of 1918, it will return in the Fall with strength. This is why they are making the Swine Flu vaccine instead of other ones for fall. So that email was sent out to health care providers, to learn about this potential.

The 1918 flu stopped during the summer months and returned in a very deadly way.

I am not a fan of vaccines, but in a true serious situation, I would get it, and have my family get it. The last flu vaccine I have had was the "other" swine flu, which made me ill at the time. That oldie had alot of problems and side effects. I never would take any yearly flu shots after that fiasco!

I don't know what to suggest for you...it will be a personal decision for each of us, I think.

Thanks Mrs. D. I read an article in the Denver Post yesterday- and Kathleen Sebelius indicated schools may be turned into vaccine clinics for this stuff. As an adult, I have never done flu or pneumonia shots, (I deal with autism on a daily basis, and believe immunizations/vaccinations should be studied more thoroughly) but the forecasts for this flu are real, and scary. I hope you will keep us posted since you have much better contacts and a wider knowledge base than most of us here. Julie

Red face

Remember the dire warnings about AIDs? That all the hospitals would be filled with AIDs patients by now, and no one would be able to find medical care? Didn't happen here. It is happening in 3rd world countries, and it DID cross into heterosexual transmission, but predictions of mass swarming of hospitals did not pan out here. (edit to add-- I am not minimizing the AIDs crisis, but only to point out that some predictions were overly exaggerated. Here is US the drugs are available to most, and those who cannot afford them get them thru Medicaid. Not so easy in 3rd world countries, however, where orphans are mounting by the day as their parents die).

In an average year here about 30,000 die as a result of regular old flu cycles.

So I guess some of us get jaded about predictions. Y2K, never happened, but the panic did...I had to live thru that in my job.

So I don't have a clue if this H1N1 thing will blossom here as predicted, or if it will be another dud.

never had a flu shot in my life....last time i was sick with anything that could have been the flu was in the early 90's......since a large number of the deaths in 1928 were actually d/t bacterial pneumonia...i have seen the suggestion to get that vac. now....and the flu one when it comes out....one of the newest obs about the new one that i have seen, however is that some of the deaths seem to be from an inflamatory storm from the virus itself rather than a bacterial pneumonia......in other words, who the heck knows, lol

I'm an oldie and have had 2 sessions of "real" flu, I should have a bit of natural resistance by now methinks. How many of the flu jabs actually contained the current virus at that time.
The African aids problem is one that only the Africans can solve ie; prevention.
The recent "bird flu" scare seems to have died down a bit now too. I wonder how long it will be before the "Global warming" bods realize that nature is far far stronger than any human race- they seem to have forgotten that the industrial revolution was really belting out the CO2 with the general public coal fires in the home.
Nothing like a good old panic, is there

As with any vaccine-there is a chance, albeit small-that you can contract Guillain-Barre syndrome from them. I had a very severe case 13 years ago, would prefer to get flu instead.

got this info in a newsletter. Just wanted to pass it on as a general FYI.

[A warning that the swine flu vaccine has been linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the UK Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter.

The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, was leaked to The Daily Mail, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins.]

Is that first link from Mercola's website? He's a well known scammer if he's the one I'm thinking about.

My MS neuro suggested that I get the swine flu shot. It spreads quickly and is very contagious. People have been stricken at noon and dead by 4pm. I'm also getting my regular flu shot around mid-October.

Here is another article on the H1N1 vaccine:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...s-America.html

I get the regular flu vaccine and will this year, however, I am not getting the H1N1 vaccine. I guess we will see if my gut instinct is right or if I will be extremely sorry.

Here is another article:
