Does anyone here deal with GERD or LPR- another version of GERD? I am trying to understand the dietary changes necessary to help get my symptoms under control- the worst of which is a constant cough/need to clear throat- too much mucus- knot like feeling of mucus in back of throat. Too much weight loss. I'm getting mixed info. on diet changes. I've been working on changes for 2 mos. and am not feeling much better. Any thoughts? Thanks- J~ |

Hi there.
I had quite extreme problems for a few years about 30 odd years ago. My symptoms were caused by a problem with the valve where the oesophagus enters the stomach. After some years of trying everything, I ended up having to have my faulty valve repaired which was major surgery way back then. (these days they do it laparoscopically) I ended up being referred to a Gastroenterologist who performed an hiatal hernia/diaphragm repair. Never had a problem since. There are things that you can do to help your symptoms though and they would be the same or similar to what I tried. That includes things like eating much smaller amounts many times a day rather than 3 large meals. I had a lot of trouble sleeping due to the reflux and ended up raising the head of my bed so that I wasn't lying flat at all. etc. Apart from the damage that this acid reflux can do to the throat and oesophagus, I found one particular problem with reflux that was never really talked about much was the effect it can have on the teeth especially. Long story short... There are medications available to help change the pH. Below I've posted a few sites with basic suggestions and information and you've perhaps seen those before. http://medicine.iu.edu/oto/research/...ryngology/lpr/ LPR http://uthscsa.edu/oto/lpr.asp Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease (LPR) Just curious if you're self-treating or have seen a specialist for your symptoms at all?
