18 yr old son circumcised with frenuloplasty 12/28 for phimosis. Has extreme pain upon any contact with the glans; cannot wear any pants or underwear five weeks from surgery.Painkillers not helping. Emergency doctor says he has hyperesthesia (allodynia) due to peripheral nerve damage and prescribed 50mg steroid (prednisone) for a few days and this has helped reduce visible inflammation though not completely. Gabapentin 100mg 3x/day minimally helpful but causes sleepiness. There was no mention of this risk. Is he going to need to manage extreme pain indefinitely? He is only 18 and it is not right that he should never experience pleasure in this area just because he had a circumcision. Has this happened to anyone else? Three urologists have said nothing about the timeline for healing and don't seem to know what will happen which makes me worry that what they know is that the damage is permanent.
