Default Meralgia Paresthetica

The procedure was somewhat uncomfortable as the doctors moved my leg muscles so they could see the nerve on the screen, but it was not painful. Once they were quite sure it was the correct nerve the RFNA was activated. I felt only a bit of a wavey vibration. The doctors said it would be about 6 weeks to know for sure if it had been effective. It has now been 4 weeks, and during that time I have had periods where the pain has reduced dramaticly, but come back. Now at 4 weeks the pain is less frequent and the area is becoming more numb (which is the goal). If all goes well, somewhere around 6 week it should stay numb, with little or no pain. I'll try to post again then. But I am very hopeful - have even been able to climb stairs with no pain!
Hang in there!

Hi Susan,

I wanted to see how you are doing with regards to getting the Radio Frequency Ablation for your meralgia Paresthetica? Did the pain go away completely? Are you completely numb now, and if you are how is sleeping and doing activity? I'm considering doing it! I ended up getting in from having a hip arthroscopy back in 2011. I have it so bad and I'm not able to take any meds either. Any feedback would be so greatly appreciated. Also did a fellow anesthesiologist do it or a regular experienced one do the procedure.
Best,
Lynn

I just had the ablation procedure for my back ( I have had chronic back pain since a rod infusion in 2013). Almost 4 weeks later I am in more pain & my "MP" is worse, but they will not fix my legs until they get my back fixed! It is all very frustrating, my neurosurgeon put me on gabapentin after surgery when he realized there was a problem, then I went to a neurologist for an EMG on my legs and she took me off it due to weight gain, then I was sent to the pain clinic who put me back on it! My husband even researched the ablation procedure for me as I have become so overwhelmed by everything I have been through. They didn't tell me until it happened that it gets worse before it gets better & can take 4 weeks to work! I probably haven't been much help but it's always nice to know you're not alone

Next week I am scheduled to have a Radio Frequency Ablation at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. As I understand it, a thin needle that is attached to a radio frequency emitting device will be inserted into the nerve that the doctors have identified as causing the MP. I have been told that they will bring the frequency to 45 degrees (frequency, not temperature). They say that this often causes the nerve to go "dead" without burning it or cutting it.

I am hoping and praying that this will be the answer

Have any of you had this procedure? Did it work for you? Any advice?

I am a new member and look forward to chatting with anyone who understands this pain.

Hello! I am also a new member in this group. I have had meralgia paresthetica since 2010 and I am tired of facing this alone. I had one radio frequency ablation in 2011 and one in 2015. It worked perfectly the first time. I don't know why but I still have this blunt pain in the reqion after the second one. This scares me to no end
