Default Symptoms of MP

My daughter has been diagnosed with MP. She is 17 y.o and for the past prob 5 years or more has had numbness and tingling in her left thigh. Now she has pain associated with the above symptoms. Docs keep saying MP and want her to see an anesthesiologist for a nerve block. I am trying to get as much info as possible before we proceed.

TIA

Hi Kathy (love scentsy)... I've got an appt with a neurologist tomorrow afternoon. I've had symptoms that lead me to MP as well. Standing for a few minutes in one place is the worst as it is like a knifing sensation. Numbness and tingling are constant. All of it seems to have started after a series of abdominal surgeries over the past few years and is getting worse, not better. Has your daughter seen the anesthesiologist yet?

Thumbs up

I have had nerve blocks for MP, way too many actually! The typical nerve block is just under the skin at the top of the hip. If a injection of lidocaine at the same spot just under the skin works, then that is where the injection for the Steroid should go. If the pain does not almost instantly disappear with the lidocaine steroids are probably not going to do anything. FYI the Lidocaine injection is the actual test that shows positive and proves that it is MP or not.

They tried deep injections once into my thigh, due to a misunderstanding that I was still in pain. I'd ask for a second opinion if they want to do a epidural injection to start with.

Still the #1 thing that helped me was lidocaine patches, I kept them on 24/7, but it was very important that I shaved my leg first, My MP was very sensitive to touching hairs, and ripping them out when pulling the sticky patch off! YIKES!!!! The patch also offers a buffer from cloths touching the skin, which is very painful as well.

No longer suffering from MP

Rob.
