That is a first. I have never heard or even read anyone suggesting that as a treatment for MP. Sounds a bit drastic to me. As someone that has suffered from MP for decades, I know how intense the pain can be at times. I know how it can change from intermittent to constant. You mentioned "all else has failed". Would you mind elaborating on what treatments you have tried that have failed? Have you tried radio frequency ablation? If not, I would certainly try that long before the proposed treatment. Based on the anatomy of the LFCN, I am not sure the proposed treatment would be beneficial, but I am not a doctor. I have never heard a doctor recommend that for MP. Some times, conservative treatments are not effective, but a combination of treatments over a prolonged period of time may prove beneficial. Many times a patient will give up on a treatment plan if it does not work after a short duration. Persistence in a treatment plan may prove that it takes time for the plan to be effective. How long have you experienced MP symptoms? Are they intermittent or constant? What are the symptoms you experience? What have you tried? What seems to precipitate the symptoms? Is there anything you can do to alleviate an acute painful episode? Have you used an external TENS unit? If that did not help, I doubt that an implanted device would do any better. In my opinion, I would exhaust all other treatment plans before going the intended route. |

Just wondering if you had the stimulator implant, and if so which one and how that has worked out for you? My pain management doc is suggesting a DGR stimulator for my ongoing MP. |
