Default A Calf Tremor

I have an internal calf tremor on one side, also internal tremor in chest & abdomen upon wakening in morning. Calf tremor occurs when first lying down at night in bed for about 45 seconds or when very nervous. It is a resting tremor and it is on one side. I know that equals Parkinsons, but I would like to be convinced otherwise (scarred to death of Parkinsons), anyone have experience with psycogenic tremor? Would much rather be psyco than have PD!

LOL on being psycho...know the feeling!!!
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF THE JERKYS!!!
My leg started with tremors...then went to cramping... now i look like the energizer bunny it keeps going and going and going... I have segmental spinal myoclonus...dont know if you would agree it is better. my quads and hamstring muscles are constantly contracting and relaxing until they decide to cramp up. They have cramped so hard that they twist my foot distally and once ended up with sprained ankle.
Have you seen a neuro to have it checked out and ease your fear of PD??

It is possible that you are both having a food sensitiivity reaction, which the most common is gluten. I know it sounds crazy, but I developed a gluten sensitivity at the age of 30 and it caused me to twitch. I too was scared to death of having Parkinsons, MS, or ALS. I saw a neurologist and after several tests ruled them all out. He said it was benign and probably stress related. As the twitching got worse, I began to experience terrible anxiety. Finally I turned to a homeopathic doctor who right off the bat saw that I was most likely having a food sensitivity reaction. After a week or two being completely gluten free, my symptoms completely subsided. The twitching, tremors, cramping, and anxiety among others. Its a long story, but upon further research and follow up dr. appointments with the homeopathic doctor, we traced the food sensitivities to 'Leaky Gut Syndrome' and 'Candida.' Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I know it sounds crazy, but based on what I'm reading from your posts, you may have what I had.

Thanks for the reply Secret Agent Man - I have heard of Gluten sensitivity, I think it is called Celiac Disease. Wouldn't I have stomach issues too though? My stomach and digestion is fine.

Did you have tremor?

Actually the two are different. In Celiac Disease gluten will actually cause damage to the villi your small intestines. In a gluten sensitivity or intolerance, it is your immune system that reacts to the gluten. Gluten sensitivities are the most common in the western world because gluten is in just about everything we eat. Its in our breakfast cereals at breakfast, breads for lunch, and is used as a filler in many processed foods we eat for dinner. Sometimes our bodies will react negatively if they are over exposed to something for so long. In Asia the most common food sensitivities are to rice for the same reasons.

Anyway, in my case I developed several food sensitivities including to gluten, dairy, soy among a few others. I had a condition known as 'Leaky Gut Syndrome'. It is caused by a build up of Candida. Candida is the fungus and yeast that exists naturally in our intestines normally in small amounts. The helpful digestive bacteria that live in our intestines usually keeps it in check. With the heavy usage of antibiotics in our society today, many people are losing their helpful bacteria and the Candida is taking over. Over time the Candida weakens your intestine walls and leeches into your blood stream spreading throughout the body. The damaged intestine walls also begin to absorb undigested food proteins. The immune system sees these undigested proteins as foreign invaders and forms antibodies to attack them. Eventually your body learns to be proactive and attacks each time you eat that food. Thus a new food sensitivity or intolerance is born.

In order to cure yourself you need to first eliminate the Candida, then replenish your helpful bacteria by taking probiotics. Don't take probiotics without taking out the Candida first because it won't be able to take hold. The Candida won't let it. Eventually your gut will heal and you can begin to reintroduce foods you had become sensitive to. Eventually you will be able to eat them all again. It takes time though. 6 months is the minimum I've heard and average is about a year. I'm 2 months in, but the results I've already seen are staggering. I don't twitch anymore which is the big one. I have more energy and I sleep better at night. Its worth looking into for yourself. Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck.

I got the info on fava beans from the parkinson's forum by Aunt Bean ... this is what I have been doing dont know if it would help you or not but might be worth trying

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been eating about a 1/4 cup of fava beans (canned ones from Progresso) as they are the only ones I can find. But the tremors and jerking of my leg have calmed some. Dr. poo pooed it as I started on the beans about same time as the Keppra I was on would have been cleaned out of my system. I had went 11 days without a major cramping spell from the myoclonus... so to see if it was just being off the keppra or if the favas had a part I quit the favas and my leg started going again like before...so I am back on fava beans and I dont care how silly my doctor thinks I am.
