Default Is this something I should worry about?

So I'm having these... problems, and I'm wondering if it's somewhat normal or indicative of a more serious movement disorder. Basically when I stretch a muscle not even necessarily in a really firm and contorted way, I get these fine twitches and shakes that are pretty rapid. I notice it in my lips when I'm sucking on stuff or drinking, I notice it in my fingers sometimes when I'm holding my hands in certain positions while typing, or if I'm squeezing something, etc. Sometimes when resting I'll get a little twitch in different parts of my body that vibrates kind with really subtle quivering and makes me feel sort of anxious not in a "I have to move around" sort of way, but in a, "this is a very unpleasant sensation" kind of way.

**

I'm worried because I was pretty much forced to take atypical antipsychotics on-and-off when I was 18 and 19 (I'm 20 now), though I'm not sure if it fits the pattern of EPS like TD, dystonia, akathisia... or if it's something different. None of the doctors I've talked to as of yet (several internists, a psychiatrist, and a non-specialist neuro) have been able to give me a proper diagnosis, so I'm seeing a movement disorder specialist in two weeks. I took an EMG about a year ago and it was normal.

I also took Klonopin for about a year and a half and it helped for a bit with the anxiety from the feelings though not the feelings themselves, and it stopped working as well I decided not to take it anymore and tapered off of it. Only other medical history was a head injury back in 2005 where I hit my head while skateboarding and had a concussion but they did a couple years of neuro testing and I was fine a month or so after the injury.

If you have any idea as to what might be the problem or if you can just give a ballpark estimate as to how worried I should be about this I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

hello Adam

sorry that we cannot allow the link. it is a forum default that applies to all new members so if you just post a few more times you will be able to add it.

a couple of things I wanted to ask
why were you on the anti-psychotics? and the klonopin? and did you have any of these symptoms before going on them?

here too is the link to our post concussion syndrome forum as the members there may be able to give insight related to the concussion you had and whether this could be related
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html

I hope you find answers soon so that you can be on the right path to wellness.

I took the APs for 3-4 months at a time a couple times due
to psychosis, I used to do street drugs and would get into stages where
I would act delusional so I was hospitalized and had to see a psychiatrist for awhile, though my current psych never diagnosed me as schizo-affective. I took the Klonopin later due to anxiety brought on by worrying about some of these symptoms I noticed, and for the unpleasant sensation... sort of like a restlessness but I don't move around violently I just feel kind of a burning prickly uneasiness, so I don't know if that's akathisia.

I suppose I've always shaken when stressed or exterting myself, I'm just not sure if it was so drastic, I never really paid attention to it in the past. If you look up ** on YouTube you can see what I'm describing, it doesn't fit the videos of TD I've watched but
it still seems irregular, so I don't know.

hello Adam

are you on any medications at present?

we are not doctors but rather just patients or family of patients, so obviously no one here can offer a diagnosis. Have your doctors discussed the possibility of the symptoms having been caused by the varied drugs (both street and prescribed) ?

I am not sure what they are doing currently to treat you, so please do follow their recommendations

I do know of people who have managed to control TD well with natural methods so you may want to look into this
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-...ive+dyskinesia

you can also post on our medications forum as members there may have some insights
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum72.html

ps the post will get flagged every time you keep trying to redirect to another site, so rather just wait till you have your default number of posts for new members

Understood. I read the NT guidelines but still wasn't really clear on it. I'll make some more posts and come back here when i'm allowed to post my
video.

I don't take any medications regularly besides stuff like Advil or Benadryl for sleep. I have PRN AP and Klonopin in case
of an episode because I live with my family.

I know nobody here is a doctor but it is a support group so I was just seeing if someone would recognize the symptoms in the video I wanted
to post from them or a loved one who had been diagnosed by a doctor, just to narrow things down or hopefully relieve some of the worry I have if it's not the
things I was worried about.

I know exactly what you are talking about with the stretching and the twitching! I would stretch like in the morning when I first woke up and the movement felt jerky to me. I also had the random muscular twitches and anxiety.

I know it sounds crazy but I ended up having something called 'leaky gut syndrome'. Basically the helpful digestive bacteria in our intestines takes heavy casualties from our usage of antibiotics, either through prescriptions or by way of eating meat from animals that were fed antibiotics. When the helpful bacteria isn't there a natural yeast in our digestive tracts called candida multiplies out of control and mutates into fungal form. It weakens our intestine walls making them more porous. This allows undigested food particles, candida, and bacteria to be absorbed into your blood supply when normally it wouldn't make it past your body's defenses. The immune system is based in the gut and quickly becomes overloaded. Over time the immune system can start to target the foods we eat, vitamins and minerals that we need, and sometimes it turns on the body itself.

Leaky gut has several different ways it can materialize into symptoms. Initially it can show up as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Some people don't show any digestive symptoms at all. Other people develop food or environmental sensitivities, allergies, auto-immune disorders, etc. In my case, I developed food sensitivities to wheat/gluten, dairy, soy, caffeine, tomatoes and strawberries before I finally caught on. My twitching and the anxiety were symptoms of the food sensitivities.

Anyway, do some research into leaky gut and candida and judge for yourself. Just a heads up that the mainstream medical community is reluctant to take either of these seriously just yet. I had gone to my GP and a neurologist who both told me that my symptoms were stress related and that my twitching was 'benign.' I was diagnosed with what they call Benin Fasculation Syndrome or BFS. It was really just BS though. Basically they ruled out the biggies like MS, ALS and Parkinsons but didn't know what I had. I had to go to a homeopathic doctor to find the answers.

Anyway, I'm on a recovery plan and diet now. The twitching and other symptoms are much better now, but I still have them. The damage to your body is pretty severe by the time the neurological and auto-immune conditions begin to show themselves. It takes several months to heal, but it is possible. Let me know if you have any questions. Your symptoms could be because of this too. Good luck.
